G2, CPH Flames sit atop IEM Fall’s Group A with 2-0 records as FPX upset mousesports
BIG and AURA sit in the bottom two spots without a victory to their names after two days.
G2 continue to show great form at IEM Fall with a solid victory over BIG and now sit at the top of Group A alongside the lesser Copenhagen Flames, who beat FunPlus Phoenix and AURA to get their 2-0 record after two days of play.
BIG started their very tough IEM Fall opening matchups with two losses in the first days of play to MOUZ and G2, and will now hope to get some wins against some of the lesser opposition to remain in contention in an uphill battle for one of the top spots in the group.
FunPlus Phoenix’s upset against MOUZ on Nuke put the two international teams smack in the middle of the group, as both now sit with 1-1 records ahead of the third day of play in Sweden.

G2 took a 3-0 lead on the CT side of Nuke to set themselves up for success early on, but an outside play to B by BIG got them on the board with guns in hand before back-and-forth rounds ensued. The Germans got within a round of the CTs, but weren’t able to tie things up as Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and company kept thwarting BIG’s slower rounds to an 11-4 half.
G2 tried a full execute on the pistol round, but were mowed down by the defending team’s USPs. BIG’s delight didn’t last long, however, as they quickly found themselves on the back foot with a very strong G2 pushing through the defenses and not allowing the squad led by Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz to build an economy, going on to close the series out 16-8.
A 1vs2 clutch by Aurimas "Bymas" Pipiras got MOUZ off on the right foot on the attacking side of Nuke, but things stayed even early on as FunPlus Phoenix put up their defenses and made the half an exciting clash which ended with Martin "STYKO" Styk and company taking a single round lead before going on the terrorist side.
The map stayed close early on in the second half with MOUZ retaking the lead and FunPlus Phoenix keeping the pressure on with back-to-back clutches by Jesse "zehN" Linjala, but it was then Jonatan "Devilwalk" Lundberg's men who took the reins to bring it home 16-12.
Copenhagen Flames turned a pistol round loss into a 3-1 lead on the attacking side of Overpass, but as AURA bought their silenced M4A1 the tides changed in favor of the CTs, who dominated the half going on a 10 round streak before losing the last two before switching sides.
The Danes secured the second pistol round to try and get back into the map on the defense, but like in the first half, once rifles were in play it was AURA who once again took charge. This time around Copenhagen Flames didn’t let up and kept it close all the way to the end, winning match point with a ninja defuse going into the last round of regulation, which they won to take the series.
The Group A standings after the second day of play are:
