BIG win Group A tiebreaker to secure spot in 9-12th place decider bracket

The Germans need one more victory to ensure their presence at the PGL Major in Stockholm.

BIG have solidified their position as a Major contender with a third-place finish in Group A after coming out on top in a series of tiebreaker matches against FunPlus Phoenix and MOUZ. Johannes "tabseN" Wodarz and company now need just one victory in the 9-12th place decider bracket to finish in the points and secure a spot at the Major.

The hardest hit team in this tiebreaker were FunPlus Phoenix, whose elimination in the group stage put them out of contention for a spot at the Major. MOUZ fate is not yet sealed, on the other hand, and much would have to go against their favor for them not to make the Major due to their previous point cushion coming into IEM Fall.

BIG will be shooting for an 11th place finish to secure a spot at the Major

The first tiebreaker pitted FunPlus Phoenix and MOUZ in what started out as a close affair with both teams tied 3-3. It was then that Jonatan "Devilwalk" Lundberg’s men put their foot on the gas to take a 6-3 lead, but unable to handle the pressure and close things out it was MOUZ who not only tied things up, but went on to win the following three rounds before securing the map 10-6.

The second tiebreaker, also played on Vertigo, saw the victors, MOUZ, take on BIG, with the Germans leading 2-1 as CTs after the first half, a result they capitalized on by winning another two rounds on the attack.

The final match pitted BIG and FunPlus Phoenix on Vertigo, making all tiebreakers go down on the same map, and once again it was the German squad who showed their superiority on the map, this time starting out on the attacking side with a 2-1 scoreline before closing things out with a clean two rounds to seal the deal and win the tiebreaker.

He was by far the best realistic option they had and Styko said the whole team wanted it. Really don't understand it unless he wanted a completely insane salary. They were looking real solid with him from the get go, could've been really good with more time

So that's why they never recovered from it?

There mightve been other factors and reasons to it but the fact is that krystal was a tier 3 karrigan was pretty obvious

I'm pretty sure they played open qualifiers, but tbh there was almost no chance anyway since they had 0 points, so they would need a really high placing to go to major

He knew that when he left, so EF probably grinding with the next time in mind. And tbh I think that they can pull it off, but that won't be easy for sure.

Well, Movistar Riders had 0 points too and can maybe get to the major

True, but they need to place at least sixth to guarantee them a spot and this spot still most likely will be contenders. And out of 24 teams that's pretty high.

IEM Fall group format is utter garbage. Jeez, what happened, 2014 called? BO1 is lottery, these tie breakers are even worse.

Yeah fr this is stupid. Valve invent this rmr thing because they want the consistently best teams at the major, and then they do this BO1 crap

Yup, it's a far step back. If we want fairness, round robin BO3 or Swiss BO3s is the closest. But it seems money and time is worth more than proper results and fair competition.
