PGL Major Stockholm 2021 Challengers StageHeroic secure Legends Stage berth with 2-0 victory
It was relatively comfortable for the Danish squad, who were simply too well drilled for the Spanish underdogs.
HEROIC overcame the underdogs Movistar Riders 2-0 to secure their spot in the Legends Stage, 16-7 on Inferno and 16-14 on Overpass. The Spanish squad exceeded expectations to make it to the Challengers Stage, but couldn't quite overcome the final hurdle to secure a memorable run, bowing out in 9-11th.
The first map of the series was Movistar Riders pick of Inferno, and it was a disappointing opener from the Spaniards. HEROIC started on the CT side, and an assured display across the board lead to a convincing half win for the Danes. Movistar Riders never managed to string rounds together, leading to complete economic control for HEROIC which made for a comfortable 11-4 half.
As Movistar Riders switched to the CT side, they did manage to show some semblance of resistance by winning a force buy after losing the pistol, but it was short lived as HEROIC quickly took control of the game once again, allowing Movistar only two more rounds, finishing the map 16-7. Martin "stavn" Lund lead the way for the Danish squad, posting a healthy 117 ADR on his way to a 1.49 rating.
Next up was HEROIC's pick of Overpass. Movistar Riders got off to a far better start in this map, quickly racking up a 4-0 lead with some convincing holds. As HEROIC built up some economy they immediately began to display their prowess on Overpass, systematically picking apart Movistar Riders' defaults. Movistar Riders also suffered from a lack of information in many rounds, their setups generally being passive and static, and this lead to a 6-9 half loss.
Moving onto the offensive side Movistar Riders once again started well, picking up the pistol and converting to bring the game back to parity at 9-9. Much like the first half they were immediately pegged back once HEROIC secured a full buy, and the Danes put up a streak of rounds, seemingly always finding the right information to bolster the defence.
Movistar Riders rallied, showing the resilience that secured their impressive IEM Fall finish, battling in a scrappy end to the half to keep things close, but HEROIC were simply too strong, finishing the game 16-14.
