Apoka steps down from MIBR

The 36-year-old plans to pursue streaming and content creation upon returning to Brazil.

Brazilian veteran and legend Alessandro "⁠Apoka⁠" Marcucci announced on Friday that he has stepped down from his head coach position at MIBR, citing the desire to stay in Brazil near his family as his primary motivation for the move after six years of living abroad and traveling to other countries.

Apoka joined MIBR in January 2021 after the organization picked up the ex-BOOM quartet. The move to the new organization followed in the wake of João "⁠felps⁠" Vasconcellos' departure to GODSENT, a roster change that the new-look MIBR struggled to recover from in the following year.

Apoka will step down from coaching and focus on content creation

Under BOOM, Apoka was behind the team as they won nine titles in a row in South American tournaments in 2020. However, MIBR have failed to find the same success, with their only tournament win since the move to the organization coming in ESEA Advanced North America Season 39 in December.

Apoka was also one of the coaches implicated in the coaching bug scandal in 2020, receiving a reduced 5.4 month ban from competitions by the Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) after he cooperated with the investigation, all the while claiming innocence. He was subsequently permanently banned from all Valve Majors in January 2021 despite his ban by ESIC having elapsed.

The 36-year-old leaves a lasting legacy in Counter-Strike, having been a staple name in the Brazilian scene for over 20 years, even after taking an extended break before his return in 2016. He has occupied various roles during his time on teams, including being a manager and coach in both 1.6 and CS:GO.

During the online era, he took to streaming alongside his coaching duties, something which he will now look to pursue full-time following his departure from MIBR.
