nexa on joining OG: "I could instantly see the players were way, way better than what their results showed"

In the last interview from day one of the IEM Katowice Play-in, Nemanja "nexa" Isaković discusses his move from G2 to OG and explains the reasons behind the team's early success.

In one of the standout roster changes of the winter off-season, nexa and Aleksi "Aleksib" Virolainen swapped places between G2 and OG, in a move that saw the Serbian in-game leader switch teams for the first time since he joined the former organization in late 2019.

Since the move, OG have enjoyed a successful month so far, remaining undefeated with the new lineup following a convincing run through the BLAST Premier Spring Groups and the IEM Katowice Play-in, where they beat Renegades in overtime and ENCE in a straightforward series.

After nexa and company made it to the Katowice group stage, we managed to get a hold of the in-game leader and asked him about his big move, what he thinks he brings to the table that the team didn't have before, and his commitment to the craft of a leader.

The Serbian categorically denied rumors claiming that Valdemar "valde" Bjørn Vangså was originally meant to be at the helm of the team before he went on to talk about OG's success thus far, citing the depth of the individual talent and a looser style as some of the main reasons.

Same goes for a lot of other teams By my accounts the only teams in top 10 right now that are playing as good as they should are Na'Vi, Heroic and Gambit Na'Vi are just playing really well, Heroic are playing as good as they can, while still being in top 10, same goes for Gambit... Rest looks so good on paper, but fails to show for it

They actually are, on paper they have or at least they had incredible fire power.Beside very good tactics, all the players played very good, that s why they were so good when sjuush and refreshz first joined the team.Idk what happened exactly but feels like everyone except stavn forgot how to play.

Perhaps because they didn't achieve what they though they could considering they probably peaked last year. Also lots of drama going on for months around the team

+1 a lack of results, despite thinking they're achievable could be a big factor for a lack of motivation and desire to practice as hard as they did before? all speculation, of course, but would make sense.

I think it's very important for every player in a team to believe in the teams ability to win. If players don't believe in the team they are playing with motivation etc goes to shit. No idea if this is the case tho with Heroic.

I disagree with you. I mean, he might be able to see that the players are better than their results, but it is another thing to lead them to those results. Alkesib couldn't, maybe nexa won't be able to either, but that does not mean nexa is wrong. He didn't say he is better than aleksib either.

we see things like this all the time in other sports, how many times have there been players with immense talent underperforming because they didn't fit the style of the team, or that they didn't get along with a player, or a manager, etc. I am curious to see if Nexa's IGL style works out with OG

+1 Maybe it's not even the IGL who is not right, but maybe the players are just not good together for some reason despite they are individually very talented. Teamsports are much more complex than just signing the most talented players possible.

no he doesnt sound salty at all you are just imagining it brother. Where does he throw "shade" at g2? Show me the part? The only thing he is saying is that he didnt like the SYSTEM, so what? he was not happy being igl in g2 because of the system and because of the high expectations, this is not salty but its just facts and has nothing to do with personal feelings towards g2. now he feels free and happy in og so i dont really see anything negative from him, just that he likes it more in OG now. And he said that the g2 players wanted to keep him which basicly says that he was and still is on good terms with them. he just made a decision for himself after 2 years of putting everyone else in front of him and I think he deservs to be in a team where he can feel comfortable. it was just his time to move on. happens every 2-3 years in almost every team bro

It's in the title, dude. The players were way better than their results showed my ass. Aleksi was at OG for two years. You're telling me their 2-year underperformance was due to Aleksi? No one was able to show flashes of brilliance for two years? Come on, bro. OG players ain't bad, but they will never be title contenders. They would be lucky to be a consistent top 10 team. I doubt it. Nexa is delusional. Let's see what happens when the honeymoon period ends and reality sinks in. These statements are just a prop for his ego.

Lol its just facts? The players were not as good as they are now in the past and saying this is not salty. He simply said that they are perfoming better than he expected and this is something positive. You probably just trying to find something bad or negative because nexa is serbian. also he said in the end of the video that he doesnt have any expectations with og and he just wants to play with them and see where it goes. So you either dont understand english pretty well or you are just trying to find something bad out of hate towards him

Well, there are many factors that determine the success of a team, but one of the most important (imo) is a good IGL, so saying stuff like what you quoted, suggest that IGL wasnt doing a great job. This doesnt make Sexa better than aleksib with him just saying it, we will see how they will do in the future, so far they are looking good
2022-02-16 11:18

it is just meme to aleksi's "i could instantly see niko and hunter don't need micromanagement"

no he didnt. he even said that neither one igl style is "bad" or "better" its just different and has to fit. he only said that the players were way better than he expected but that doesnt mean aleksi is a bad igl but maybe just that the players feel more comfortable with nexas style

just because he sugarcoated his words doesnt mean that cancels the meaning of those words, "different igl style", a good igl has to adapt well to the team, and if he doesnt't he's either bad or medicore igl u accidentally added too many 0's in your username

apex for example , xtqzzz probably also.. and probably all tier 1 igl think that, him and karigan are the most overated igl from 2020/2021 , you just have to watch games and see their team plays. but with xtqzzz aleksib will learn a lot and might become one of the best igl . aleksib with og was very easy to read according to apex , it s not a team he struggled at all, even on bad vitality maps they were beating them.

Finally people will stop this nonsense with nexa getting kicked from g2. just as he said the g2 players wanted to keep him but HE wanted a change. there is no bad thing about it. and even funnier is that he said g2 had no choice than doing the switch because they needed igl after nexa said he doesnt want to igl in g2 anymore. so basicly aleksi was a second joice for g2 and i dont think there was any other igl available at that time I feel a bit bad about the switch because i believed in the balkan core but i understand that nexa wanted things differently and now he can be happy in og. good luck to both of this teams!

Maybe he had enough of NiKo's shenanigans toward the IGL ? Anyway it seems weird to leave when they finally get a sniper and a coach

yeah but coach and sniper wont change his own position in the team and the way he had to call (starplayer system). He just made a healthier choice for himself. Its not all about being in top3 team if you dont feel comfortable with your positions and the way you have to work so in the end looking at it from this perspective its not weird but just a fresh start for him.

Why am I reading this after they have only beaten fairly weak opposition during a period when other teams havent even fully antistratted them yet? These comments are going to age like fine milk in a few months, or maybe even sooner...

I don't understand one thing , he didn't wanted to be IGL anymore and he left the team , and then he joined OG to be IGL ??? that just proves that he didn't like to play with the guy who's carrying whole team (NiKo) , maybe he felt like he was irrelevant in G2 and he then joined OG so people can finally see him ...

it makes total sense because he likes to igl if he can do it his way and with a system that he prefers. he likes the g2 guys but he didnt like the starplayer SYSTEM. nexa just doesnt like to relay on one player and this is totally okay because everyone has different preferences. so he just decided that it was time for him to take a new path and og gave him the chance to igl his way and structure the team how he wants to. I think most people who dont just want to be in top3 but also want to enjoy playing would make this choice. ofc he appreciates niko carrying but he has the right to also look after himself and make the more healthy choice for himself.

OG havent proven anything yet also calling aleksib a bad igl basically, lets hope this doesnt age like milk

he never said aleksi is a bad igl you are just putting words in his mouth. he is only saying that he is using the players differentely and they seem to be comfortabel with it. he also said that neither his style or other (aleksi) style is better or worse but it depends on the players aswell. so maybe what you can read between the lines is that he said "the players in og like lose igl style more than aleksis style" but this doesnt mean he is calling him a bad igl, like not at all.

maybe but he said that himself " it could be a honeymoon period but we just want to keep playing and see where it goes" sounds for me pretty down to earth and not having pressure

would be cool but I like that they dont have the same pressure as in g2. carlos mentioning everytime that he wants the trophies. must be pretty big pressure for the players ngl. anyhow I think both teams wil perform great especially g2 with monesy!

Alexib is a good player and a good igl but .... His micromenagement kill players, .... wait ... throw smoke ... go there ... come here ..., sometimes it's just better to say "flamez, go kill" than to move your players like chess pieces

I could not play like that. imagine you try to focus on yourself and someone dictating every step for you and you saw that the og players actually can think for themselves. they are doing good

He is basically saying, there is less pressure to succeed at OG so I'm happier. AKA, I can't handle pressure.

Eliminated in straight two games. G2 in the meanwhile playing in the big stage for the trophy. But hey at least he is more comfortable now. I wonder how much fun he is having when danish niko is no longer hitting 1.3 rating every game and mantuu starts whiffing in all the important games.

+1 couldn't wait for this to happen for people to stop bickering about how instantly insane OG is and how G2 made a mistake not keeping nexa after blast groups where half the teams never even met or had the chance to

Of Course, OG is much more suitable for Nexa, he can do whatever he want there, and Aleksib is suitable for G2,e because he doesnt need to micro manage no more. Win win.
