Heroic secure semi-final berth over VP; Gambit eliminate NIP to advance to quarters

Dzhami "Jame" Ali's side will also begin their bracket run from the quarter-finals as a result of the loss.

HEROIC showed utter dominance on the server as they made quick work of Virtus.pro in the Group A upper bracket final, dispatching of the CIS side with one-sided scorelines on Mirage and Vertigo to advance directly to the playoff semi-final.

Meanwhile, Gambit completed a gauntlet run through the lower bracket after they had been sent down by Ninjas in Pyjamas in their opening match, claiming revenge against the Swedish side as they saw to their elimination in their final series to secure a playoff berth.

It was a rematch on Vertigo and Ancient that played out, and this time both maps went the way of Vladislav "nafany" Gorshkov and company as they kept themselves alive in the event, looking to defend their IEM Katowice 2021 title that they had won online.

cadiaN's side are through to the semi-finals in the Spodek Arena

HEROIC looked a cut above Virtus.pro for the entirety of the best-of-three series that played out, making Jame's troops look a shadow of themselves despite them having shown a dominant face throughout the event thus far. It started on the Danish team's pick of Mirage as Virtus.pro scored a win in the first pistol round, but it was a quick turnover as HEROIC won an ensuing forcebuy to turn the tides.

Unrelenting on the T side, Casper "cadiaN" Møller's men then charged ahead, dismantling the VP defenses as they won nine rounds in a row to establish a dominant lead before four rounds at the end of the half gave VP some breathing room heading into the side swap. However, HEROIC wasted no time in bringing the hammer down in the second half, converting a pistol victory into a six-round spree to bring the map to a swift end, 16-5.

HEROIC's composure continued onto Vertigo, where they put up a stalwart defense. Despite giving Timur "buster" Tulepov room to lurk into B on the T side, the Danish team were always ready to recover, and great teamplay was showcased in full force as they pushed up to an 11-1 lead. Again, VP made an effort to grab a handful of rounds ahead of the break, but another pistol win for HEROIC put them just mere moments away from a victory, with the team eventually closing out the map, 16-10.

sh1ro dominated in the series, averaging a 1.64 rating

Dmitry "sh1ro" Sokolov and Sergey "Ax1Le" Rykhtorov were shining beacons for Gambit as they fought past Ninjas in Pyjamas on Ancient, a map that kicked off with Gambit winning six of the first seven rounds on the T side. The Swedes kept the scoreline close as they reduced the deficit in the latter portion of the half, bringing themselves within one round at halftime as they looked to answer back.

A comeback wasn't to be though, and it was sh1ro who stepped up to make sure of it, putting on a masterclass as he found a number of multi-kill rounds alongside Ax1Le. Just three rounds went the way of Ninjas in Pyjamas before their fate was sealed, Gambit taking the win 16-10 to move the series on to Vertigo.

There, Ninjas in Pyjamas showed a better face, taking three rounds to kick things off. Five in response from Gambit was finally answered back by the Swedish side after a late-round situation resulted in the CIS team not planting the bomb in time, and Ninjas in Pyjamas went on to edge out an 8-7 lead by halftime thanks in part to a strong individual effort from Hampus "hampus" Poser.

A pistol round win and subsequent conversions against a forcebuy and eco helped Ninjas in Pyjamas further extend their lead after the side swap, but once Gambit had rifles in their hands, the tides quickly turned. The duo of sh1ro and Ax1Le remained a dominant force as they shut down any attempts to gain entry to bombsites by Ninjas in Pyjamas, conceding just one more round en route to a 16-10 finish to close out the series.

Never were always reached playoffs, but still lacking crowd experience, nafany and mostly hobbit need to step it up, with interz doing his job good and sh-ro+ ax1le playing that great

If Ax1le will entry frag like this, Nafany make good decisions, sh1ro clutching, I believe they can reach grand finals

also anothe part of the problem is that the swedish scene is pretty weak, the academy players are probably their best option for sweeds

Honestly, Heroic look like one year ago. They can beat anyone in this form. Looking forward to the playoffs with VP, Gambit and Heroic all playing well. In my opinion MOUZ or NiP would have made it to the playoffs in group B, huge gap between the groups this time due to form of some teams

History will repeat itself and Gambit will face Navi in quarter-final just like at Katowice 2021. The sexiest man alive and sex1le were on fire today. Nice try hampus but better luck next time, I hope dev1ce finally will back to business for EPL.

It might look like NiP did great, while all they did was somehow decent game vs struggling gambit and win vs completely missing Mouz. Question for nip CEO: Why is device playing random faceit games while your team is playing one of the biggest events this year? Also Nip lineup in short: Hampus - very solid IGL, like Tabsen for example REZ - ok second or maybe third star (ok), def. NOT superstar Plopski - dunno, not IGL, not support, entry? Very weak stats pric3tag - support, still quite weak (eeeeh, kinda ok) phzy - he did what he could, def not T1 player by any stretch of imagination ATM So you have solid IGL, ok support one semistar. GL this major cycle. MAYBE if device returns you can stay like top10 or something. But you should be searching for replacements as we speak...

Last time NiP won a big LAN event was when they had Xizt, f0rest, GeT_RiGhT, draken, and rez. 2017 Xizt vs 2022 Hampus - Hampus probably has more firepower, although tactically (not sure if because of Xizt or because of threat) the old NiP outshined this one by a decent margin. Nevertheless hampus has done a great job so far and should be one of the core pieces of this team 2017 f0rest vs 2022 Plopski - Not even close unfortunately, plopski just doesn't hold up at tier 1. He should be the first player they'd remove. 2017 GeT_RiGhT vs 2022 Es3tag - I think Es3tag has a better all-around support play style, but lacks the ability to frag out in high pressure matches, while GTR would have flashes of brilliance that single handedly win rounds and even whole games. Es3tag is alright, but the team needs more firepower to justify him being here. 2017 REZ vs 2022 REZ - He has stayed pretty stable over the years, but in this new team he has been thrusted onto the team as the star player, which he 100% is not. In the old NiP, he was the 2nd (maybe 3rd at times) star of the team and it was a good role for him. He should also be one of the core players of this team, him and hampus are the two guys who shouldn't be removed. 2017 draken vs 2022 phzy - Draken had the assurance of an actual spot on the roster, and had time in Epsilon to prepare for tier 1. Phzy was thrusted onto the roster and has little support to succeed. Overall draken was a better player, and if I'm being honest watching him in Savage still makes me think he may still be a better player. -Plopski, although not sure who to add. Just need a lot more firepower. And pray to god device comes back

#34 I'd reckon that team would be an event challenging team, who could be a consistent top 3 elite team. Although sadly it wouldn't happen, I don't see a world where fnatic lets them go. If it did happen though that would be dope

If fnatic lose krimz and brollan honestly they should disband, they already look really bad so if they lose their two most solid players (mezii is alright though) they'll be over
