Heroic win Danish derby in overtime to go 2-0 in Düsseldorf

Big plays by Rasmus "sjuush" Beck gave HEROIC wings when Astralis were closest to winning the series.

Astralis and HEROIC, two teams that won their opening ESL Pro League matches against the North American squads of Evil Geniuses and Complexity, respectively, played on the second day of Group D fixtures, with Casper "cadiaN" Møller and company coming out ahead after mounting a comeback in the second map and going to overtime in the decider.

HEROIC’s victory and proficient showing on Ancient in their opening match against Complexity didn’t put their Danish rivals off in the veto, as Martin "trace" Heldt’s men picked it as their home map, in which they had a convincing 4 win streak going back to IEM Katowice with victories over the likes of G2 and ENCE.

sjuush’s heroics marked the big turning points in the match

Astralis didn’t disappoint and got off to a good start on their pick, leading 6-2 on the attack, and although It took HEROIC a while to get back on track after the initial daze, they were finally able to bring it back to within one before switching sides.

HEROIC’s slow start came back to bite them on the offense, where despite retaking the lead after the pistol round and subsequent conversions, they stalled out early as a fearsome Kristian "k0nfig" Wienecke tallied 112 ADR and 29 frags by the time Astralis brought things to a wrap, 16-12.

Benjamin "blameF" Bremer and company took advantage of starting Overpass on the CT side, once again jumping first out of the gate to a sizable 10-3 lead before HEROIC closed the first half out with successive round wins.

HEROIC took the second pistol round to try and bring things closer on the attack, but once again Astralis were calm and collected, with all players showing up and blameF at the helm.

Everything turned sideways when sjuush won a showy 1vs4 when everything was at its lowest up against seven match points, 8-15, after which his team rallied taking it all the way to the last round of regulation, which they won to take the map to overtime.

cadiaN and company made it 11 rounds in a row after sweeping the first half of overtime, setting the scene for the comeback to be completed in the second half, which it was, 19-16, to force the series into Vertigo.

Astralis let victory slip through their fingers

The skyscraper map quickly saw a stalemate settle after six rounds, the three first going the way of HEROIC followed by three Astralis defenses. Down 4-6 by the tenth round, HEROIC took their third timeout of the half, which paid dividends as they went up by one, 8-7, at half-time.

The final half of the series started off with a strong push by Astralis as they gained economic advantage on the attack to get ahead 12-8. Down 13-15 and once again against the ropes, sjuush came up big with an MP9 quad-kill to keep his team alive and pushing for overtime.

Overtime on Vertigo wasn’t as straightforward as the previous, as it went into double overtime, but by the end of it all it was HEROIC who once again came out on top, 22-19, to claim bragging rights over their local rivals while keeping a clean 2-0 record in the Pro League group stage.

farlig is good, just needs to learn how to play with the team, and get used to tier 1 cs again, after not playing an official since oktober or smth, love the confidence, just need to not get over aggresive and i think he will be good. Obviously not device, but 1-1.15 rating per tourney i would say

Not necessarily. It's just hltv "experts" calling top 20 teams "garbage" whenever they lose a match ... This one was close, so "garbage" is just hilariously uneducated, ridiculous, airhead narrowminded ... Imagine, Astralis had won one of the EIGHT matchpoints. Then we had seen "Heroic disband" crap in here. Oh dear ... youngsters can't think 20 minutes ahead.

Guess you've seen a lotta sh ... silly stuff about BiG as well: Pretty good team, wouldn't you say? But no: According to "hltv experts" the entire organisation should've closed down years ago! 🤣🤣🤣 It's just hopeless in here. Like screaming against the wind. We even saw -Karrigan threads only ONE week after winning Katowice, just because they lost a match. I don't hope I was THAT stupid, when I was younger! 😁

Yes. Two matches ... Rosterchange. Bring in another awp'er, Two matches: Rosterchange! Another IGL: Two matches ... Okay. Enough ridicule of you sill ... eeeh ... uneducated comment. How long do you think it takes to put together 5 guyz who will have to perform at a tremendous speed? On top: We're talking about Gla1ve here. He's probably not only telling his boyz: "Go get'm!" It maaaaaay be a little more advanced than that ... as well as just changing the lineup every other week. Cammmmaaaaan, bro: THINK! I KNOW you can do it! 😁

Keep malding, Lucky was never the problem, I can see Farlig becoming the next scapegoat for a team that simply never will win a tournament. This guy is even less of a device than lucky is, but a device is exactly what Astralis needs to win, you’re so fucking clueless, fanboy. Astralis doesn’t play to finish in 5th place or something, so nobody cares about your sentiments. I’m not a Astralis fanboy like yourself nor a Dane and know these things 10x better than you will ever understand them.

Why don't we just suggest new rules: A team loses a match: DISBAND on the spot! TWO matches by Farlig, NOT putting up numbers like Dev1ce or S1mple: "Yup, mate: You're out!" 🤣🤣🤣 Let's see teams starting all over all the time, unless they win EVERY game. The cs would be awful, but "hltv experts" like you would have a lotta fun!

Dude you can spam comment every negative comment on Astralis here, nobody cares. It’s a fact that this team will never win anything, Farlig is even worse than Lucky, 100%, I saw Lucky doing things Farlig never can. But it doesn’t matter, they need a device and there is no device. It’s over. Maybe throw the old guys out and start over, or accept that there will be no more tournament wins

"It’s a fact that this team will never win anything" ... Maybe you should consider studying the definition of "fact" based on future predictions. You may be right, you may be wrong, but it's a bit bold to say at this point since the lineup is fairly new, and to say something like this after a close map + no less than two overtimes against a top notch superteam in form ... Well, well ... it makes you look like yet another "hltv expert". Let's see how it goes, shall we?

I would pick NaVi any day too atm, but we ARE talking about a team with Gla1ve as IGL and K0nfig as one of the more dangerous entry fraggers out there at the moment. BlameF isn't too shabby either, and of course he was pretty serious and somewhat successful as IGL himself, so he may have thrown interesting stuff on the table as well. Xyp? Nobody in here understands what he is doing. I.e. Bardolf suggested some time back, that you watch HIS POV to learn how to move around on the maps ... but I may waste my time trying to explain why he is THE (second to dupreeh) most winning cs go player of all time in terms of prize money. Farlig? Too early to say. He is 23 and can still develop into a monster with the right backup, calling, coaching ... Astralis are known to have all that. But of course: Ave is banned ... so the turmoil is like "never ending" for Astralis, ever since Dev1ce left. Let's see how they do around summer. I expect them to qualify from group D, but then they may run into some serious opposition! I may appear "tilted" to you, but that is far from the truth. Astralis winning a lot during 2018 got me into this game, but I'm in fact just interested in good cs! Right now the competition is FIERCE at the top: Teams like Vitality, G2, Mouz and BiG already out! Ence, Movistars, Fnatic and Furia surprising everyone, then Skade taking down Vitality, Ence and Copenhagen Flames ... Waaazzzappenin'?????! 😎👍👍👍 No surprise, that Heroic beat Astralis atm, but it was close, wasn't it?! (Just trying to get a decent conversation instead of the usual schoolyard brawls in here. Over to you.)

Just like a 5 year old, who doesn't wanna go to bed ... Your mindset and reply pattern is very predictable, I must say. Yes, yes, yes ... games at this level are soooo easy. 10 hours a day for 10 years ... and then you read comments like yours ... One day you may understand what these pros need to do to compete at this level. THEN you might realize that you are maybe being a bit disrespectful to them. I couldn't care less, but you may have a journey ahead of you: Grow up, young padowan! 😉

Honestly farlig ain't even that bad with the awp, he just does random stupid shit from time to time that costs him too much. If he manages to iron out those mistakes this Astralis team could be quite good. I also thought he looked quite nervous today. Different kind of pressure playing for Astralis compared to FPX where you are always the underdog.

Are you stupid? The third map was vertigo. What kind of terrible fanboy are you, not even watching the whole game? Hahaha wtf Farlig wasn’t good, if he doesn’t improve he will be the next Lucky. They will quickly say he’s the fault

farlig had 8 awp kills on vertigo double OT, next to stavn who is a secondary awper who also had 8. cadian had 13 awp kills with 2 more opening kills than farlig. farlig needs to absolutely step it up if hes the primary awper, being the most expensive teammate on the team.

Said it from the start, Astralis need either device back or to hire stavn and make him AWP fulltime... I'm not sold on farlig, we'll see how he does in the coming monthes...

True and neither of that will happen so, either disband or accept to not win tournaments.

HEROIC loves mega clutch in a Pro League. cadiaN p250 and knife with no armor, refrezh 1v5 galil when they were almost out from tournament, and now sjush 1v3 with 30% hp postplant with no chance and saves the whole series. Fucking incredible.

Delicious to see a real team win, not this disconnected joint of whatever Astralis is

I think k0nfig has been really solid for the last couple of games but this time it was not enough. They can't rely on him and blameF to carry the whole team when Heroic got stavn, sjuush and TeSeS going stompmode lmao. Too early to say anything about Farlig in this lineup.

Both teams played great, it's nice to see Astralis with the new line-up pushing hard against a top 5 team (which Astralis are not at the moment). It was close over the whole line and Astralis just made a slip up on Overpass, which Heroic took great advantage of and made a great comeback. I am a big Astralis fan, but Heroic did their work and won the match....Astralis at least know that they have the fire power to push a top team to the limit, only hope Farlig plays a little bit more freely, I felt he did more damage with rifles than with the AWP, most first shots he missed, I don't know if it is still jitters because he is "new" on the team.
