EPL S16 Conference team list finalized

Six spots will be available in the main group stage of ESL Pro League.

After six months of qualifying tournaments, the full team list for the ESL Pro League Season 16 Conference has been completed. Drawing from a wide variety of qualifiers, sixteen teams will come together at DreamHack Summer in June to compete for a total of six spots in the group stage of EPL Season 16.

The first events to qualify for the Conference were ESEA Premier Season 39, which finished in November 2021. The reason that season couldn't qualify for EPL Season 15 was because the Season 15 Conference was scheduled on top of Premier, despite EPL Season 15 not being played until March 2022.

From ESEA Season 39, Sprout, Looking For Org, and Extra Salt had secured spots for winning their respective divisions of Premier. However, with the signing of Extra Salt to Complexity, the spot went to the next team in line, which was initially ChocoCheck. But after ChocoCheck's second place was stripped of them due to forfeiting the final, the spot then went to paiN.

paiN had a schedule conflict and was unable to attend the Conference, and instead of yet again pulling the next team in line from ESEA Premier Season 39, ESL took the highest placing team available from ESL Challenger League Season 40, despite MIBR having already claimed a Conference spot from that event.

ESL Challenger League Season 40 also awarded spots for the other regions, as well as the Oceanic equivalent, ESL ANZ Champs Season 14, awarding two spots. The winners of ESL Challenger #48, Outsiders, took a spot, while the ESL National Championship events for the United Kingdom and Ireland, Germany, Poland, Iberia, and France also landed direct spots.

The smaller regional events played in their own playoff to determine a single spot, while the final spot was a late addition, being filled by a South American open qualifier won by São Caetano.
