IEM Dallas 2022ENCE edge past G2 in two maps to secure playoffs at IEM Dallas; MOUZ eliminate Riders
Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski has been in tune with ENCE to help the European team secure a spot in the Group A upper bracket final.
The fates of two teams have been sealed as ENCE punched a ticket for the playoffs at IEM Dallas by beating G2 in the upper-bracket semi-finals, while on the other side of the coin Movistar Riders will be heading home after just one day of play as an opening loss Nikola "NiKo" Kovač and company followed by an 0-2 defeat at the hands of MOUZ put them out of contention.
ENCE haven’t reached the end of the road just yet in the group stage, however, as they still have the upper bracket final to play — against either FaZe or Vitality — for a chance at a straight jump into the semi-finals. Meanwhile, G2 will face the winner of the upcoming series between Astralis and Encore to keep their lower-bracket hopes alive, while MOUZ will face the loser of the FaZe vs. Vitality bout.
Pavle "Maden" Bošković and Olek "hades" Miskiewicz both showed up on Dust2, a necessity in Lotan "Spinx" Giladi’s absence, but it was Paweł "dycha" Dycha who put up the biggest numbers with a map-high 26 kills in the 30-round nailbiter. G2, who had been well behind during most of the map, won eight rounds to try and mount a comeback while giving up just the one that got ENCE on map point, but Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer’s men ultimately secured it 16-14 to dodge extra rounds.
The second map of the series, Nuke, was also a nailbiter. A 7-4 start by G2 put them in a good spot, but ENCE fighting until the last round on the attack to bring it back to within one before switching to the favored side really changed the map’s momentum. It was, nonetheless, a brawl to the end, as it was G2 who took a 13-10 lead before ENCE put up a wall, with all players chipping in, including stand-in Snax who was not out of place to edge the map 16-14.
Movistar Riders started their series strong on the CT side of Ancient, taking the early lead, but then crumbled in the last four rounds of the half, giving MOUZ a total of seven rounds on the attack. Ádám "torzsi" Torzsás showed his best version with a 1.58 rating and 25 kills in as many rounds as he and his team built around their strong T-side and cruised on the defense, shutting Movistar Riders down before they could even hit double digits.
Early on Mirage it seemed as if Movistar Riders were going to contest the half on the attacking side to give themselves a good chance at taking their map pick, but before switching sides it was MOUZ who took control by winning six out of the last seven rounds to hit double digits. Aurimas "Bymas" Pipiras, showing superb form, was the player to watch in the second map as he dropped a 30-bomb in the 26 rounds it took MOUZ to close out the series and secure survival in the lower bracket.
