Complexity defeat HEET to go 2-0 in Malta

Justin "FaNg" Coakley's performance powered his team to a convincing win over the French squad.

Complexity secured their second victory on the bounce at ESL Pro League Season 16 after taking down HEET 2-0. The North American squad kickstarted their ESL Pro League Season 16 campaign with an upset victory over Astralis before sweeping Alexandre "bodyy" Pianaro's squad on Nuke (16-8) and Overpass (16-12).

The Dallas-based squad seems to have returned from their last-place finish at BLAST Premier Fall Groups 2022 with much-improved form and are now in the conversation for a spot in the playoffs at EPL.

FaNg was the standout player on Nuke with a 1.67 rating

The action between HEET and Complexity got started on the Frenchmen's pick of Nuke, and it was bodyy's squad to strike first on the T side. The offense kicked off the series with a successful opening pistol round which gave them the early lead. Aurélien "afro" Drapier and Pierre "Ex3rcice" Bulinge topped the scoreboard, powering the Ts to a 6-2 advantage with some great pushes into the A site and ramp room.

The momentum completely shifted later in the half due to Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli and FaNg finding their rhythm on the defense. The duo locked down the two sites, pushing the North American squad to an incredible 13-round streak across the two halves to go 15-6 ahead. Michael "Grim" Wince also came alive after switching sides, recording a 2.58 rating to create an unstoppable trident of firepower alongside hallzerk and FaNg.

The series moved to the North American pick of Overpass and it was a much more closely contested match. Complexity's offense barely came out ahead in the 8-7 half thanks to two separate 2v4 round victories which kept the North Americans in the half. Ricky "floppy" Kemery and Ex3rcice led the way in terms of fragging for their teams with 1.44 and 1.29 ratings respectively.

Complexity started the second half on the front foot, taking their third consecutive pistol round of the series. HEET kept up the pace for a while, but quickly fell behind the North Americans with an 11-15 deficit. A crucial 3k with the Deagle on the B site from Thomas "Djoko" Pavoni gave the French squad a lifeline, but hallzerk quickly shut down their hopes of a comeback with a triple kill of his own on the last round to close the map 16-12.

HEET remain at the bottom of Group C, with the Frenchmen yet to register a map win in Malta.

hoping for a more competitive region to challenge the EU / CIS region like years past. Don't really care for the team or roster, but stronger NA competition is always a good thing.

NA is only going to be getting better actually playing these EU teams consistently. The COVID days put them back so far it's nice to see some results for an NA team that isnt Liquid.

I just hope they can keep practicing well and contribute some knowledge transfer to other people in NA from this experience. Also hope we start to get more international LANs on NA soil.

People really don't bring attention to how much COVID fucked up NA cs. It's like they pretend that NA not having access to quality tournaments for years didn't exist

Jackz's level is around this kind of teams. He got better during his last months with G2, but still was the weakest link.
