With 2009 coming to a close, we are proud to present our HLTV.org Player of the Decade awards.

From 2000 to 2009, a lot has happened in the world of esports. Heroes were forged, teams broke up and seemingly-stable competitions met early fates. From an early boom to a time of crisis and contemplation, this decade has seen it all.

We now look back at the first ten years of the new millennium and ask our users to vote for their favourites players. The HLTV.org staff has put together a shortlist for each category, from which the users must now vote.

The voting will be closed on Wednesday, December 30, with the winners being revealed the following day. Then, the five players will make up their own poll from which users will vote for their overall HLTV.org Player of the Decade, which will be announced on the first day of 2010.

The schedule for HLTV.org's Player of the Decade looks as follows:

Did I say something about them? I quees only one player will be choosen for each award so I picked Spawn... I though about f0rest as well cuz auctly he is my top3 favourite player. Im not so long into counter-strike and I've never seen heaton playing so I wouldnt vote for him :)

It doesn't matter, if someone is the best of the decade, taking the whole world into account, he just has to be the best European player of the decade, it just can't be any other way! That's a stupid comment. Deciding who's a better player of someone who played 5 years ago and someone who plays now is an obvious choice. The difference is how they played the game at that time, looking at HeatoN and even spawn back then compared to the other players playing at that time was a huge difference. Good idea for a poll, but it will be ruined by fanboys (neo fanboys) and people who haven't been in the scene for long.

Neo fanboys will ruin this? - OMG. How is Neo more famous then boys from fnatic or SK or other players in the past for that matter? Is he better looking? Don't think so... Does he have a better character then the other players? Could be but thats not it. Are there dozens of Neo fragmovies? No... The reason why he has a lot of fans is that he played/plays CS very very well!! Of course that SpawN and HeatoN are legends of the game no question about that! But the purpose for this is to find out which player is the fans pick for each category.

cs is a team game and one in which it's much harder to define who the most important, best, e.t.c... best in what ? In aiming, game brains, ability to clutch when it's most important, or all these at once ? Or, perhaps, in achievements ? Besides, the importance of a good coordinator/strat-caller can far exceed any aimer, even if he's very consistent and picks amazing kills constantly. IMO it would be a fun, but too much subjective poll.

He is definately one of the legends of the CS sccene, but the fact that you have never even heard of him shows how little you know about the history of CS, which seems to be a majority of the users on this website. So what i'm saying is, more recent players who have performed well will get more votes simply because people haven't heard of the other players, which I find quite saddening.

I know today would only be for the best awper, but I just like to make lists. :D (also with a explanation) cogu - Best AWP of the Decade Before cogu went to source, he was the most important player in mibr, his AWP was ALWAYS a threat to other teams, and even vs the best in the world cogu managed to keep hitting his shots, also after his return to 1.6 he was a terrifying player to go up against and a world class AWPer. glow - Asian Player of the Decade Many members of this site will probably vote for solo/jungle on this one, and I'm not saying its a bad choice, however glow is in my eyes the best Asian player,as since his time in Lunatic-Hai and now with the WMF squad he has been one of the key players for the Korean in order to win those big matches. fnx - South American Player of the Decade fnx, South American #1 in my eyes, sure you can say cogu is the #1, but fnx has always been my favourite SA player, a overall good player his movement is amazing and so is his aim, I am still disappointed that cogu and fnx had a fight..they are basically the only hope for SA CS to win big tournaments again. fRoD - North American Player of the Decade Not much doubt in this one, I was thinking ksharp,shaguar maybe even n0thing or fRoD, the thing that made me decide is that fRoD is still standing his ground vs the best in the world whilst the other 2 have put CS behind them and n0thing is relatively new to the big scene. SpawN - European Player of the Decade As with North America I had a few players in my mind, but there is no doubt that SpawN is the best player Europe has ever had when you hold it over 10 years, his achievements list is amazing, when in his best shape he was almost untouchable. elemeNt - Best Player of the Decade I could've gone for SpawN but what made me decide to not do this is that Ola has (together with SpawN actually) been dominant over so many years, in so many environments (like 8 teams?)...but the most important thing to make this decision is when he made his come back earlier this year, he was able to get a Norwegian team 3rd in a big tournament, which made me realise how good of a player he is. Maybe a bit tl;dr but I thought it would be a better read than just put names behind the categories. :D

and element was player of the year right before he joins sk, i guess 2002, with potti, fisker heaton and i cant remember the name of the last 1, so element is a very underrated player imo. this crazy kids just saw him playing in the bottom of his carrer, otherwise he would be like a religion to them. imagine if he was born at poland. imagine ;)

SK was potti heaton fisker and ahl when elemeNt came in and got them to the next step which was winning everything. Probably the best lineup SK ever had. eoL way back was the best team from Norway ever. goL who he carried to the CPL finals where they lost a very close one to 3D. The REAL NoA, (Norwegians of America), before the current mTw lineup played under the name, with elemeNt, shaGuar, xeqtR, Naikon, and Method. Who won CPL and WEG Not to mention he played for mouz and mibr not even knowing their language to strat call. And 4 Kings when they were still relevant. You just can't top his track record. A lot of great players but just didn't do what he did. But people like Neo and f0rest who are relavent now to people that haven't been into the game as long but are popular will probably win.

Say if you Say best players (In order of how HLTV put it) shaGuar, Jungle, cogu, method, SpawN, solo. (Not my picks just random names that popped up in my head) Isn't this controversial? Best AWP of the Decade: shaguar Just to good to handle. Put him in whatever position on counter strike, and he will make you crazy. Just awesome! Asian Player of the Decade: Jungle With not much to said right here, Jungle was the breakout of the year on 2006/2007, where he amazed us all with his unbelievable skills. Not doupt about that! South American Player of the Decade: cogu Whether we want it or not, he is on the Brazilian scene for quite a long time, with many achievements, nominated 3 times for the best counterstrike player of the year. North American Player of the Decade: Bloodshot/fRod Both in the scene for a long time, though bloodshot quitted. fRod is just very good with the sniper, having plenty achievements with compexity gaming, and continues now with EG. Also he has won the best player of the year award in 2006 if I am not wrong, and has been nominated 2 more times. And bloodshot was just awesome with ak and m4, if you ask me, a player that I`ve missed. European Player of the Decade: element/Neo Amazing planner, amazing skilled player. These players are the ones that change the counterstrike scene. The thing about Neo is that he has been achieved with the best counter strike player 2 times, and continues dominating also this year. He is very skilled, and a freaking mindplayer. Best Player of the Decade: element/Neo Same that was stated before.

Um, decade started in 2001 and ends in 2010. You are one year too early. You see, there is no such thing as "year 0". Millenium started in year no. 1., thus year 2000 is the last year of its decade. Yes, I know - this is how decades have been counted for a long time, but this doesn't change the fact that it's an improper way of doing it.

totaly agree, most coments here are from kids who play cs for like 2-4 years, so they know only these new-age players.. but this would be decade awards = 10 years, that means not only cs 1.6 players.. wake up kids :P I would vote for someone like elemeNt, knoxville, naikon, method, Potti, fisker, shaGuar, Hyper, souledge, etc. p.s. sry for my english :/

Best Player of the Decade - impossible to judge,should i put the most dominant of few years or should i try to compare players from 02 to 08 or something ? prolly spawn was the most dominant in his prime before he quit and over time i have to say walle oh and ill add Best Team of the Decade - hate to admit it fnatic - they ruled last year and they have always been competing oh and SK comes a pretty close second altough overall im sure they have had more success.

fnatic has always been on the top, but they ruled so much only in 2009. In 2008 mTw was better and in 2007 PGS. 2006 as far as I remember belonged to NiP, but I can be wrong, didn't count up everything.

I like how everyone name one player as the best player of the decade, while they don't mention him anywhere else..... If you're top of the world, you have to be top of your continent, that's just coherent. People should also stop whining about the fact that everyone voting don't know about the players who played at the beginning of this decade. No they didn't, but people vote for THEIR player of the decade, and if THEIR player of the decade is neo, then it is neo! This isn't a poll that's supposed to say that one player IS the best, but it will show who the users of HLTV.org think is the best player of the decade. Nope, I made a guess that I'm quite sure is correct. I am ignorant because I don't think he has watched trace for more than one tournament, when using the AWP? Yes, but the point with the poll isn't to decide the best player of the decade, but who the users of HLTV.org think is the best player of the decade. If you wanted to really know who really is the best player, you would need an objective jury who had been around for 10 years, but that's not the point with their poll.

First of all, I rarely visit fragbite, I maybe spend 5 min there per day, tops. Don't lecture to me about the meaning of words.I just think that both HeatoN and f0rest deserve this. HeatoN, because he is HeatoN. He has achieved so much and he has been a real influence on the scene. And f0rest is f0rest, probably the best player in the world and has been so for a long time. It's just funny that you have nothing else to do than to complain about every single comment on hltv.org that is just slightly wrong. We shouldn't vote for the players we don't want to vote for, should we? Just because there are some limits according to you. "I wanna vote for f0rest. oh damn I can't, he's from europe too! but he is the player that I want to vote for... damn". Get it? The vote still counts, either way it makes sense to you or not.

That's really funny when people say that "heaton or potti" is player of decade but neo or forest cannot be becouse they become popular 2005. Heaton and potti became popular in 2000/2001 and they were really good for only few years when the international skill was terrible. If you compare heaton skill from 2001 to neo or forest skill from 2006 you can't say that heaton is/was better than them. So I vote NEO 4 sure.

Neo and Forest would really suck if they weren't better though, you know everything evolves obviously the skill in CS does too, you need to comapare them to their time, HeatoN and Potti and a few others, were so much better than the rest at that time in a way that Neo and f0rest aren't.
