We now begin our "Player of the Decade" series, and it is time to vote for the best sniper. Who is your pick?

We at HLTV.org have compiled a list with the five players we think that should be in the running for this accolade. Below you will be able to find a summary of their achievements to help you make your choice.

Kyle "Ksharp" Miller is without a doubt one of the most famous faces in the history of American esports. After departing X3, with whom he had won a CPL event, Miller formed Team 3D and helped them to a CPL title in 2002. He would also power the team to a third-place finish at CPL Summer in 2003 and a runners-up finish at WCG the same year. After winning two WCG titles in 2004 and 2005, in Counter-Strike: Condition Zero and Counter-Strike: Source respectively, Miller stepped down as player in 2006, returning to Team3D the following year when they were preparing to move to the CGS. Miller is currently playing CS:Source for Team Pandemic in the ESEA League.

Name: Raphael Camargo

Achievements: 1st place CPL World Tour: Brazil 2005, 1st place CPL World Tour: Chile 2005, 1st place ESWC 2006, 1st place shgOpen 2007, 4th place ESWC 2007, 2nd place GameGune 2007, 2nd place Extreme Masters III LA, 1st place Extreme Masters III America Finals

Brazil has crafted some of the finest sniping material, such as Eduardo "eduzin" Chagas, Wellington "ton" Caruso and, more recently, Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo, but none of these players has spent so much time at the top as Raphael "cogu" Camargo. The Brazilian legend departed g3x for mibr in early 2004 and inspired the team to big international wins, including two CPL trophies in 2005 and an ESWC title in 2006. Camargo would retire from gaming just two weeks after this last success to become a professional football player in Qatar, only to return three months later. Together with his team-mates, Camargo moved to Counter-Strike: Source for the CGS, re-joining mibr in late 2008. After a long period without titles, he decided to hang up his mouse last month.

When you think of a classy sniper who has been at the top for many years, the name of Danny "fRoD" Montaner immediately pops out. He joined compLexity in August 2004 from United 5 and helped put Jason Lake's project on the map, finishing behind mousesports at CPL Barcelona and winning the ESWC tournament. After 2006, when coL placed second at WEG Masters, Montaner, along with his team-mates, moved to Counter-Strike: Source. Following the demise of the CGS, Montaner returned to 1.6, and he is one of the few players that seem to have made up for lost time. Now with Evil Geniuses, he has helped the team win their first international event and their prospects for 2010 look very good.

Dennis "walle" Wallenberg achieved early recognition not only because of his talent, but mostly because of his gaming movies, where he frequently featured with his brother and sometimes team-mate, Jonathan "miniwalle" Wallenberg. After a successful time with spiXel, with whom he had placed second at ESWC in 2004, the older Wallenberg teamed up with EYEballers, clinching the silver medal at CPL Winter that same year. In April 2005, he left for mTw, only to leave one month later to link up with Ninjas in Pyjamas, where he spent nearly two years, before joining SK Gaming. Wallenberg has confirmed his skills at SK, winning several events since his arrival, and he will continue being one of the players to follow in 2010.

Harley "dsn" Örwall rose to prominence in 2003, when he joined famous side xPerience.se. One year later, he would link up with Gamers.nu, who consisted of players from teams like ArchAngels and GameOnline. Following a short-lived stint with Begrip, Örwall joined EYEballers in 2005, but he spent there less than half-a-year, signing for fnatic later that year after playing for them as a stand-in at CPL Singapore. He was the only player from fnatic's line-up not to be removed when they announced their new roster in the first days of 2006, and he remains a core member of the team, helping them surpass in 2009 the total earnings of SK's team back in 2003.

Sure, but, as I just stated in #34, as to me he still plays/played related games (we are not talking about pacman that is) and 'player' is more general than the games themselves. That way even 1.6 is a, to some extent, totally different game taking into account the beginning of the decade ;) To sum up, Best CS 1.6 (insert Decade awards) of the Decade is way too restrictive IMHO.

I would not make the comparison with football and futsal as the environment is very different. More likely I would use Rugby union and Rugby sevens. I know that this may sound as some sort of blasphemy to some but CS 1.6, CS:CZ and CS:S, especially the first two, share very much the same base. Thus, on the basis of that common base, I would consider the achievements in any of them as it can be consider quite the same game, and even more if the game was not played "locally" (something like CGS, especially the US part of it) but where the rest of the world teams were involved (WCG 04/05). That is for the achievements. As for the status, in this case with regard to ksharp, he still plays a variation of the game thus I still consider him active, especially if it is as part of a team and participating in a what can be considered a major competition. Now, you can agree or not but that is just my point of view on this ;)

Futsal is created out of football, futsal was created because footballers wanted something to do when the fields outside were too cold/snowy or whatever, to play on. Futsal has developed into a separate sport the latest years. :P

Because "most" users here are stupid and have no clue WHAT SO EVER. If a poll here were to select the best president of America(as if there is anyone?) Obama would win with 90% despite the fact that he's done jack shit. Since KK is missing from the nominees fRoD is the best with awp by far among these guys. Ridiculous NiP/SK/Whatever fanboys or newbies to the scene. Walle is a good player, a nice aimer, but not nearly in the league of Ksharp in his golden days, cogu when he was on fire or fRod when he is rocking currently. Ksharp is, without a doubt, the one who was best, compared to everyone else, in his prime. I've watched a lot of HLTV with that dude, and he was just insane. Voted for Ksharp. Idiot newbies already ruined the vote. Sigh. (Also, I wouldn't have minded either KK, hpx, sunde or especially spx in the vote. It may just be because I'm Danish... But spx was just beyond being the best; and all of those have a record of achievements as well - I can't believe they've all been overlooked.)

I've watched walle, like I've watched Potti, fisher, ahl, SpawN and Heaton. Walle was good, but in my opinion is nowhere near these guys, in terms of being an "AWP Fragger". It's like, you give one of these guys a big green, and you know they're going to produce something. I've got a lot of respect for everyone here, but I like walle more for his playing intelligence, than his skills with the awp.

You're clearly clueless on how good Walle was a few years back. He was a pioneer on using quick scope and no scope, he discovered many of the spots awp players use these days to peek on opponents, and i would say he was the one that showed us how to be more aggressive with the awp, using it on offensive strategies, which was something that not many teams where doing back then. I reckon that most of the votes he is getting are from fanboys who don't know of his past, and clearly that are some players on the list (like cogu for example) who have much more memorable awp frags than he has, but he deserves to win just because of how much he changed the sniper playing style.

I also stated that I'm biased about them, obviously. The problem is, that cogu was on top for around one-year-and-a-half, maybe two years. Sunde was on top for a year. (Currently inactive) The vote is just fucked, and thus I make lame replies, excuse me :) Those two years cogu was impeccable, but apart from that, he hasn't much to boast about in the last 10 years. Sunde destroyed everyone in 2008, much more than cogu did in 2004&2005. A player like spx was on top for around 3 years, I reckon, and then a shadow of his former self for another 2. He played with the immensely successful Danish "The-Titans". He belongs on this list, I think. Much like KK, hpx and so on.

In my opinion the player of the decade award should go to DSN/WALLE. They are the only players that have been successfully active on the pro 1.6 scene for a huge period of time with no breaks. kHRYSTAL was not there for the whole decade... he's been "known" since 2009 really. All the others have been there for at least 5 years in the scene, like walle, cogu, frod. I think a big miss for Counter Strike, Nationally and Internationally. Cogu was probably the best awper in 2006, we can't just deny he wasnt a good one. However, we are not only talking about that year, everybody have their moment too! ok frod is and was always overrated. he is a great awper, but he got to shine a whole lot vs NA teams(which are simply not as good in competition). the likes of lex, and a few other top awpers shut frod down in more than a few games with their awps. so if frod was the best awper of all time, i doubt he would have such a consistently poor showing vs other top awpers. walle is not even the main awper on his team atm, never understood why people considered him such an amazing awper. probably that 1 demo vs x6. dsn is a good awper, but not nearly close to the best. ksharp definitely had his moments in the early years, however he couldnt hold a handle to some of the new players that started to rise. out of that list, cogu is hands down the winner. he has always been consistant with it, and at times did the most jaw dropping things u can imagine. there are other awpers however that this list could have included... rwa, kk, sally, lex, jungle, ton, hpx, shaguar.. any1 of these guys should have been here over ksharp or dsn.

I think frod or cogu desirve to be the Best AWP of the Decade. is hard to say, because walle and dns have won a lot of events (1st, 2nd or 3rd place) ... but they are not so good with the AWP. Someone who achieve something through his awp shots should generally be better than someone doing one good tournament and never be as good again? Cs is a team game, a lonely wolf who shoots 3 every rounds still loses isn't a better player than someone who can co-operate with his team and take important clutch rounds. Well I mean people don't give cogu enough credit, he was one of the most feared, and dead accurate awp users in the world for 2-3 years. The guy was amazing,all of these players have amazing awps. With that being said I don't think cogu/walle/dsn/ or Ksharp have had a consistently dominant awp as long as fRoD has, 5+ years running now?, as well as source. I mean you can knock him for going to source but he STILL had more experience completely handling teams in 1.6, added the with the source experience he has he is definitely my vote.

Haha, it's funny that the wannabe oldschoolers are whining at "walle fanboys" saying he's winning by being most known and because of his ace on train etc. Well, actually he was in fact 10x better with AWP even before this.
