Vote for Asian Player of the Decade
We continue our Player of the Decade" series, and this time you can vote for your favourite Asian player. Who will you choose?
With Asia having its best players in strategy titles, many thought that we would never see a Counter-Strike team from this continent challenging the big guns from Europe or America. But things have certainly changed, and there are a number of Asian teams capable of mounting serious challenges in international competitions.
We have put together a shortlist with the five players we think that should be in the running for the title of "Best Asian player of the Decade". Below you will be able to find a summary of their achievements to help you make your choice.
Name: Keun Chul Kang Alias: solo Flag: ![]() Teams: MaveN, project_kr, WeMade FOX Status: Active (WeMade FOX) Achievements: 2nd place WEG 3, 3rd place WEG Masters 2006, 2nd place ESWC 2008, 2nd place EM II, 3rd place WEG Masters 2008, 3rd place WCG 2008, 2nd place GameGune Mexico, 3rd place EM IV Chengdu
Keun "solo" Chul Kang is one of the most famous Counter-Strike players in South Korea and he has managed to stay at the top for many years despite the intense competition there is in Asian countries. Kang is a longtime member of eSTRO, now known as WeMade FOX, and his talent makes his presence on this roster indispensable.
Name: Yang Ke Fei Alias: Jungle Flag: ![]() Teams: wNv.gm, SC.United Status: Retired Achievements: 1st place CKCG2005, 1st place WEG 3, 1st place WEG Masters 2006, 2nd place KODE5 Global Finals 2006
wNv.gm rose to fame when they managed to win WEG 3 in late 2005, in a time where Asia was famous for producing anything but good Counter-Strike teams. But the fact was that wNv.gm confirmed their strong status the following year, beating ESWC champions compLexity to clinch the WEG Masters 2006 title and placing second at the KODE5 Global Finals, with Yang "Jungle" Ke Fei playing a huge role in those successes with his impressive AWPing. He would switch to Counter-Strike: Source and the Wuhan Dragons at the CGS, making a quick comeback to 1.6 three months ago.
Name: Bian Zheng Wei Alias: alex Flag: ![]() Teams: wNv.gm, wNv.cn, TyLoo Status: Active (TyLoo) Achievements: 1st place CKCG2005, 1st place WEG 3, 1st place WEG Masters 2006, 2nd place KODE5 Global Finals 2006, 4th place EM III Asia Continental Finals, 1st place IEF 2009
Much like his former wNv.gm colleague, Bian "alex" Zheng Wei, previously known as "44'alex", has been a regular presence in the Chinese teams' international successes. However, unlike "Jungle", Zheng Wei made a return to 1.6 following the death of the CGS franchise Wuhan Dragons, teaming up with wNv.cn. But after faling to impress at ESWC 2008 and missing WCG some months later, the team disbanded and Zheng Wei was linked with retirement. Now part of TyLoo, he is looking to lift silverware again in 2010 after watching his team defeat some big names in recent months.
Name: Young Mo Ahn Alias: enemy Flag: ![]() Teams: Lunatic Hai Status: Retired Achievements: 4th place ACON5, 2nd place CPL Winter 2005, 5-8 ESWC 2006, 1st place Razer FPS-Gaming Season 2, 2nd place KODE5 2007 Southeast Asia
Together with Keun "solo" Chul Kang, Young "enemy" Mo Ahn achieved great recognition in the scene following a number of impressive displays against the world's best teams. Lunatic Hai's top achievement came in 2005, when they finished runners-up to SK Gaming at CPL Winter, but not even this lack of international success stopped this from being one of the community's favourite teams. The South Korean giants confirmed their disbandment earlier this year when three of their players (Mo Ahn included) announced they would begin their mandatory military service.
Name: Prasad Paramojthi Alias: StrykerX Flag: ![]() Teams: GBR, Titans Status: Active (Titans) Achievements: 1st place CPL China 2004, 5-8 KODE5 2006 Global Finals, 3rd place EM III Asia Continental Finals
Prasad "StrykerX" Paramojthi is undoubtedly the most famous face in Singaporean esports and he has been a regular presence in international events for many years. Although Titans have rarely managed to finish in the top places, they are always a name to consider and in Paramojthi they have what many consider to be the best player in Southeast Asia.
