Vote for Player of the Decade
We have closed the polls and it is now time to vote for the best player of the decade. Who do you think impressed the most?
In the last few days, we created several polls for you users to vote for those you considered that had been the best player of the decade by continent, and also the best handler of the AWP.
These five winners have now made up their own poll, from which you will be able to vote for your overall player of the decade. Voting will close on Monday, January 4, at 20.00 CET, so think carefully on who you are going to pick. Good luck to all the players in the running!
BEST AWP OF THE DECADE
Name: Dennis Wallenberg Alias: walle Flag: ![]() Teams: spiXel, EYE, mTw, NiP, SK Status: Active (SK) Achievements: 1st place OsloLAN 2004, 2nd place ESWC 2004, 2nd place CPL Winter 2004, 2nd place CPL World Tour: UK 2005, 1st place KODE5 2006, 1st place CPL Nordic 2006, 1st place EM III LA, 2nd place WCG 2008, 2nd place ESWC Masters 2009, 1st place EM IV Chengdu, 1st place Arbalet Cup Europe
Dennis "walle" Wallenberg achieved early recognition not only because of his talent, but mostly because of his gaming movies, where he frequently featured with his brother and sometimes team-mate, Jonathan "miniwalle" Wallenberg. After a successful time with spiXel, with whom he had placed second at ESWC in 2004, the older Wallenberg teamed up with EYEballers, clinching the silver medal at CPL Winter that same year. In April 2005, he left for mTw, only to leave one month later to link up with Ninjas in Pyjamas, where he spent nearly two years, before joining SK Gaming. Wallenberg has confirmed his skills at SK, winning several events since his arrival, and he will continue being one of the players to follow in 2010.
ASIAN PLAYER OF THE DECADE
Name: Keun Chul Kang Alias: solo Flag: ![]() Teams: MaveN, project_kr, WeMade FOX Status: Active (WeMade FOX) Achievements: 2nd place WEG 3, 3rd place WEG Masters 2006, 2nd place ESWC 2008, 2nd place EM II, 3rd place WEG Masters 2008, 3rd place WCG 2008, 2nd place GameGune Mexico, 3rd place EM IV Chengdu
SOUTH AMERICAN PLAYER OF THE DECADE
Name: Raphael Camargo Alias: cogu Flag: ![]() Teams: g3x, Made in Brazil Status: Retired Achievements: 1st place CPL World Tour: Brazil 2005, 1st place CPL World Tour: Chile 2005, 1st place ESWC 2006, 1st place shgOpen 2007, 4th place ESWC 2007, 2nd place GameGune 2007, 2nd place Extreme Masters III LA, 1st place Extreme Masters III America Finals
Brazil
has crafted some of the finest sniping material, such as Eduardo
"eduzin" Chagas, Wellington "ton" Caruso and, more recently, Gabriel
"FalleN" Toledo, but none of these players has spent so much time at
the top as Raphael "cogu" Camargo. The Brazilian legend departed g3x
for mibr in early 2004 and inspired the team to big international wins,
including two CPL trophies in 2005 and an ESWC title in 2006. Camargo
would retire from gaming just two weeks after this last success to
become a professional football player in Qatar, only to return three
months later. Together
with his team-mates, Camargo moved to Counter-Strike: Source for the
CGS, re-joining mibr in late 2008. After a long period without titles,
he decided to hang up his mouse last month.
NORTH AMERICAN PLAYER OF THE DECADE
Name: Danny Montaner Alias: fRoD Flag: ![]() Teams: United 5, compLexity, Evil Geniuses Status: Active (Evil Geniuses) Achievements: 2nd place CPL World Tour: Spain 2005, 1st place ESWC 2005, 2nd place WEG Masters 2006, 1st place GameGune Mexico 2009, 3rd place Arbalet Cup Europe
When you think of a classy sniper who has been at the top for many years, the name of Danny "fRoD" Montaner immediately pops out. He joined compLexity in August 2004 from United 5 and helped put Jason Lake's project on the map, finishing behind mousesports at CPL Barcelona and winning the ESWC tournament. After 2006, when coL placed second at WEG Masters, Montaner, along with his team-mates, moved to Counter-Strike: Source. Following the demise of the CGS, Montaner returned to 1.6, and he is one of the few players that seem to have made up for lost time. Now with Evil Geniuses, he has helped the team win their first international event and their prospects for 2010 look very good.
EUROPEAN PLAYER OF THE DECADE
Name: Filip Kubski Alias: NEo Flag: ![]() Teams: SPECNAZ, SpecSter, Pentagram, MYM, WICKED, Vitriolic, AGAiN Status: Active (AGAiN) Achievements: 1st place Invex Euro Cyber Cup, 1st place LehnitzLan, 1st place SEC 2005, 1st place EuroCup X, 2nd place KODE5 Germany 2006, 1st place WSVG UK, 1st place WCG 2006, 3rd place CPL Winter 2006, 2nd place SEC 2007, 1st place ESWC 2007, 1st place EM I, 2nd place SEC 2008, 1st place DreamHack Summer 2008, 1st place ESWC 2008, 1st place DTS Cup, 3rd place EM III Europe Finals, 2nd place EM III Global Finals, 3rd place KODE5 2009, 2nd place GameGune 2009, 1st place WCG 2009
Filip "NEo" Kubski is without a doubt one of the most skilled players to have graced the Counter-Strike stages of the last decade. After some years in which Poland did not field any good team, the creation of Pentagram in 2004 with the junction of the country's two best teams at the time, Aristocracy and SpecSter, greatly reshaped the scene there. In that year, Pentagram showed a taste of their game, winning Invex Europ Cyber Cup in the Czech Republic and LehnitzLAN in Germany, beating more experienced teams like D-Sky and mousesports along the way. 2005 brought the team's first big win abroad as they conquered SEC, but they would have to wait until 2006 to confirm they belonged to the elite, when they won WSVG in London and the WCG event and finished third at CPL Winter. However, not everything was shiny for Pentagram that year, as Kubski left the team in July in search for some action elsewhere, having returned less than two weeks later. The following year did not bring many trophies but it did bring two world championships: the Intel Extreme Masters and the ESWC. If you add to that the second place at SEC then you see why Meet Your Makers, the richest organisation out there at the time, raided Pentagram for their team later that year. The year of 2008 saw Kubski help MYM win their second ESWC title and the Dreamhack Summer trophy, plus a second place at SEC. 2009 would be one of the Polish team's best years, as they won DTS Cup, WCG, finished second at the Extreme Masters Global Finals and GameGune and placed third at the KODE5 Global Finals. Currently without an organisation to support them, Kubski and the former Pentagram team look as strong contenders for every title in 2010.
