Video: FaZe at IEM Rio - The best Major storyline?

Check out our editorial video profiling FaZe and what they are set out to accomplish in Brazil.

The winners of the three biggest tournaments of the year, IEM Katowice, PGL Major Antwerp, and IEM Cologne, FaZe arrive to IEM Rio with the goal of securing their second Major of the year, claiming the $1,000,000 Intel Grand Slam, and putting their name in the history books with one of the most dominant calendar years in CS:GO history.

But will Finn "karrigan" Andersen and co. manage to accomplish what they have set out to do? Shaky form after the break has dissuaded some that don't see FaZe as clear favorites despite their brilliant year, with Natus Vincere, Cloud9, Vitality, and Liquid among the names thrown in the hat as potential Major winners.

To understand why FaZe's storyline is probably the most interesting one heading into the IEM Rio Major, we created a video going over the team's ups and downs and what winning this event would mean.

Care to explain? Wouldn't this major be a career-defining win for the Faze boys? I really don't see a more exciting storyline than this

This would be their 2nd major in the same year after looking shit for a whole year before ropz turned everything around for them and managing to shaft NaVi when everyone thought they were untouchable, would also mean Twistzz would be the only player in history to win the grand slam twice

"managing to shaft NaVi" you mean they had decline due to Russian-Ukrainian war

you cant always use that as an excuse, yes its obviously a horrible thing to watch but NaVi were still making it to semi finals and grand finals of the big tournaments (Katowice, major, cologne) so even with that in the back of their mind and still being in that position it means NaVi were still super strong and FaZe outplayed them every step of the way (except Blast with the 32-7 we will ignore that D:)

well in my eyes you can take it as an excuse at least for first half a year (e.g. Kato and Antwerp) but after BoombI4 was removed and they had enough time to get back and they looked quite shaky, so I'd say it can't be taken as an excuse anymore since you know they are professionals, though I'm sure it still impacts them and will continute to do so as long as this war goes on unfortunately. Not to take away credit from FaZe though, they stepped up big time

Fluke = winning on luck/good vibes. Faze has some of the best players in the scene and have worked hard to become a well coordinated team. That's not fluke

No Even if they do win it, the storyline isn't that interesting and definitely not the best. Liquid comes to mind without thinking too much.

C9 2018 better. honestly Navi's story was solid, but nothing too special (aside from Simple winning his first major). Astralis 2017 also comes to mind, the core finally becoming winners and not chokers. Both Brazilian winners were solid, the second is a worse storyline but the first is pretty good, Zues on Gambit also very good, probably the 3rd best

i respect the win, but those "top-teams" were all completely dead it would have been a real shame if navi did not win that, there was literally no competition. since they won, good for them, but the argument that they won all top teams is weak, since the teams were all dead and waiting for changes

All from that "dead teams" were either winning events in 2021, losing in finals to NaVi or both. Except VP, they "just" were 2nd best in Katowice.

i am sorry, but the only real good teams at first half of year were gambit, vp in second half of year it was gambit, g2, a little vitality but they had kjoyin. nip was good for like 1-2 months and thats it i dont discredit navi, they were good, but other teams were complettly shatered, only real good team was gambit and g2 but without awper.

Faze went on from being the most star studded lineup in the game, to being a top team with high upset potential to being dogshit to being a decent team that choked to being worldbeaters, I pray for them to win Rio since they worked super hard for it and they have to cement their time as one of the best eras in counterstrike history
