FaZe beat OG to make BLAST Spring Group B final

Impressive individual performances from Robin "⁠ropz⁠" Kool, Russel "⁠Twistzz⁠" Van Dulken, and Helvijs "⁠broky⁠" Saukants ensured FaZe's victory over OG.

FaZe opened the fourth day of BLAST Premier Spring Groups with a 2-1 victory over OG. FaZe's ability to win rounds even after losing the opening duel was the key component to their dominating win on Mirage (16-7) whilst their mental strength to bounce back after their loss on Ancient was essential to their commanding win on Inferno (16-4).

Finn "⁠karrigan⁠" Andersen's side continue their winning ways at BLAST as they have only dropped one map so far despite fielding Patrick "⁠es3tag⁠" Hansen as a stand for the absent Håvard "⁠rain⁠" Nygaard. The win for FaZe can be heavily attributed to incredible individual performances such as ropz's 1.61 rating on Mirage, Twistzz's 30 kills on Ancient, and broky's 1.64 rating on Inferno.

The loss for OG puts them in the Consolidation final against the winner of Liquid versus Complexity, the former of which they beat 2-0 in their opening round. Although OG were outmatched on Mirage and Inferno, their Ancient performance against the team who beat them 16-3 last time around should inspire some confidence going into their next matchup.

The series opened on Mirage with OG in hot form as crucial site holds from Nemanja "⁠nexa⁠" Isaković and Shahar "⁠flameZ⁠" Shushan led to them handily taking a 3-0 lead. The early form did not last long for OG as FaZe looked to ropz to turn the tides in their favour and he stepped up to the plate in a big way. Down 3-1, ropz won a huge 1v2 clutch which gave his side the momentum to take the lead. The rest of the half became the ropz and broky show as they won multiple rounds despite FaZe losing the opening duels. The duo rarely missed a shot, and their efforts combined with karrigan's pesky ability to get behind enemy lines helped FaZe to win the half 10-5.

ropz carried on where he left off, getting two pistol kills to seal a win in the first round of the second half. FaZe pressed the advantage as they followed up their impressive T-side with a stoic defense, denying OG from getting a foot-hold in the game and going up 14-5. Two well executed B-site hits meant that nexa's side got on the scoreboard in the second half, but it was too little too late as the freight train of FaZe was unstoppable. In the final round it was Twistzz, who had stepped up on the CT-side, to close things out with a 1v1 clutch, 16-7.

OG started Ancient in the same form as Mirage, dominating FaZe with a well-structured attacking effort. Their aggressive T-side quickly overwhelmed their opponents, who found themselves completely shut out from the bomb sites. FaZe adapted soon after, and shut down OG's B-site hits to shift momentum in their favor. Unlike Mirage, though, FaZe did not immediately run away with the game; instead, Twistzz and Maciej "⁠F1KU⁠" Miklas went blow for blow to keep their respective sides in the game. Eventually it was FaZe who closed out the half in the lead as Twistzz got four kills in the final round to give them a three round cushion heading into their T-side, 9-6.

FaZe's looked to extend their lead in the first round as they took the A-site with relative ease, but in the blink of an eye they were decimated by a clean retake from OG. From there Adam "⁠NEOFRAG⁠" Zouhar led his side to a six-round winning streak that made the idea of a third map seem probable. Down big and in need of a comeback, FaZe won a round off of a ragged buy and looked to capitalize, but a lurk from flameZ shut them down. FaZe went back to the drawing board and came up with one clear solution, Twistzz go kill, but his 30 frags were not enough as they fell 16-11 to OG on Ancient.

NEOFRAG started affairs on Inferno by delivering three opening kills on the pistol round to give OG an early advantage. FaZe answered back, however, winning an eco round and shattering OG's momentum in one fell swoop. karrigan pressed his side to extend their winning streak, but NEOFRAG had different ideas as he singlehandedly attempted to keep OG in the game with a three kill B-site hold. Unfortunately his efforts were in vain as FaZe constantly found the hole in OG's CT-side and steamrolled their way to the front. FaZe continued their unrelenting assault for the rest of the half, and regardless of how close OG got to winning multiple rounds they fell short, 11-2. In a last ditch effort to salvage the half OG once again looked to NEOFRAG to hold down the B-bombsite, but that one round would not snowball into two, 12-3.

nexa and flameZ kicked off the second half by cracking the B-site wide open, but just as OG began to get comfortable Twistzz walked up banana and clutched a 1v2 with just a Deagle in hand. The mentality-breaking clutch from Twistzz sealed the victory for FaZe as OG failed to find a way past broky's AWP in the final round, 16-4.
