Kingfisher departs Grayhound

The coach parts ways with Oceania's top side after close to two years of service.

David "⁠Kingfisher⁠" Kingsford's time with Grayhound has run its course, the Australian coach has announced, ending a two-year partnership with the lineup he joined while in Renegades back in June 2021.

The move comes on the back of Grayhound's 13-16th place run through the IEM Katowice Play-In. The squad struggled to post notable results in what was their first LAN appearance of 2023, bowing out of the Polish event in joint-last place following a lopsided defeat to Spirit and a 1-2 loss to MIBR.

Kingfisher's tenure with Joshua "⁠INS⁠" Potter and company was a rather fruitful one. The squad established themselves as the leading team in Oceania, picking up several first-place finishes within their home region and often qualifying for a handful of Big Events outside of their native Australia, including the last two years' iterations of IEM Katowice and IEM Cologne.

The Australian-majority side also made appearances at all three Majors following Kingfisher's signing, successfully making their way through the respective Asia RMRs to participate in the PGL Stockholm, PGL Antwerp, and IEM Rio Challengers Stages.

Grayhound's best placement as a core came shortly after Kingfisher was brought into the fold. The team reached as high as No. 20 on the world ranking shortly after finishing in 13-16th place in IEM Cologne 2021. Form has dipped since then, however, with the Australian-majority ensemble hovering just outside of the top 30 for the vast majority of 2022 — their current placing is 42nd.
