BIG promote hyped to main roster; syrsoN benched

The German star AWPer will move to the inactive roster ahead of ESL Pro League Season 17.

BIG have announced that Marcel "⁠hyped⁠" Köhn will take the step up from BIG Academy to replace Florian "⁠syrsoN⁠" Rische, who moves to the bench. The announcement confirms a previous report from Dexerto, which was published shortly after the German team's 13-16th exit from IEM Katowice 2023.

hyped has already played with the main lineup in the European closed qualifier for IEM Brazil 2023, and helped BIG navigate through the lower bracket and secure the second qualifier spot. The 21-year-old shined across the online tournament, averaging a 1.25 rating across 12 maps played.

hyped has officially been promoted to BIG's main roster

hyped will be reunited with Karim "⁠Krimbo⁠" Moussa, a fellow BIG Academy graduate with which he won ESL Meisterschaft Autumn 2022, beating Sprout in the final. The AWPer registered a 1.12 rating across his time with the junior side, with his highlight being the fourth season of the WePlay Academy League, where he propelled BIG Academy to a runner-up finish with a 1.26 rating.

syrsoN steps down from BIG's starting lineup - Report

syrsoN's move to the bench ends a three-year stint on BIG's main roster, which started in January 2020 following his move from Sprout. The AWPer was scouted as Germany's brightest talent and he delivered from the very start, propelling BIG to the top of European Counter-Strike during the online era.

The 26-year-old, however, struggled to maintain consistency after the return to LAN, especially against elite opposition. He currently holds a 1.02 rating against the top ten-ranked teams at LAN over the course of the last three years, a significant drop from his 1.10 online score.

"In mutual agreement with Florian "syrsoN" Rische, we have made the decision together that he will take a place on the bench until further notice," read BIG CGO Roman "⁠Roman R.⁠" Reinhardt's statement. "As a replacement, Marcel "hyped" Köhn will take his place in the main CS:GO team... he has earned the opportunity to demonstrate what he is capable of, especially after his key performances in the IEM Rio Qualifier."

BIG's next event is CCT West Europe Series 1, which they will start directly from the playoffs after being directly invited to the round of 16. Their first match will be against Spirit Academy on Tuesday at 10:00 .

I certainly hope they promoted Hype to starting position, my lord. Alot of analysts talking like Syrson was a god when I didn't really see much out of him. Way too passive and rarely posting good ratings.

He won't. He has dedicated himself to the BIG project no matter how well it goes. He wants to see it succeed and he will continue to work for it until it finally happens or he'll retire from pro CSGO. He cares more about this project then his own career as a player. If it wasn't like this he would've already left BIG before the G2 offer.

yes but on the other hand at least BIGs "ecosystem" and talent scouting in the german scene is working. they always can rely on their academy team players. krimbo is good, s1n did great, k1to kinda found himself again, and hyped looked good in the IEM Brazil qualifier as well. I remember times when German cs was one of the best (if not the best) scene in the world. Mouz with legends like Roman R, Johnny R, alternate attax, mTw… they were all top10 orgs at some point and there’s nothing left right now ;(

Yeah true Sweden and Norway at this time had some really asskicking teams with SK or EoLithic, but scene wise Germans had the largest pool of players but not that one super team. I think the best was old Mousesports and they never really won big titles. Man, I don’t think a lot mens here will know the name eoLithic anymore :D

I remember it still, and stuff like NoA and spirit of Amiga, altho I can't remember which countries they were from even ^^ I think NoA was international? 99% sure element played on it Btw, do u remember the German player mooN? Or how it was spelled. One of the greatest single tournament carries I've ever seen ^^ but I don't think he cared much about a career, don't remember any other tournament than that alternate attax win

Yeah NoA was insane! one of the best teams in CS 1.6 history and had keyplayers from later eoLithic (Naikon+Knoxville). They had their origins in Norway but played mixed international (+Swedes +NA). Later they switched back to Norway based players (Zonic played for them as well). I had to Google for MooN but I definitely remember him being the best German player in early cs while he was in clan TAM. They were so good that they always were called cheaters. dunno if they ever did but they used to be insanely good. Funfact is they all came from the same small village, I think most went to the same school even :D

Well, you actually have quite a few players right now. There is kyuubii in sangal who looks promising, kressy should have a team he's good, some big academy players can go to places, JDC have potential and attax is trying to be relevant too.

syrsoN was their 2nd best player, but let's be honest, he wasn't anything special, ofc. if they could stay with him they should've, but hyped has been looking ok in this academy team, and now here in IEM Rio Qualifier he played insane, so maybe in the end it will be an upgrade. I still think BIG is never coming back to TOP 10 and would need a Major rebuild if they want to even compete with Tier-1 teams, but I wish them all the best, I like the CS they play.

+1 BIG kinda just exists to keep german cs alive though. If they just wanted trophies it wouldnt be hard to branch out of germany and keep a few players. So of course theyre gonna give young germans a chance when they can.

The problem with going international for this org. is that reportedly they just don't have money to go for the big moves, they're not an org. of a caliber even like fnatic, I think that's the biggest reason why they're not going international. I think that's the main reason why they want to promote more academy players rather than paying buy-outs.
