Aurora take down Spirit in first upset of Europe RMR B
Leonid "chopper" Vishnyakov and company collapsed on the T side of Ancient, gifting their opponents a clear path to victory.
Aurora claimed the first upset of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 Europe RMR B after defeating Spirit 16-13 in their opening best-of-one fixture on Ancient.
The win promoted Sergey "starix" Ischuk's men to the 1-0 pool at the Danish LAN, but they still have a long road ahead of them if they want to qualify for the Major with at least one more BO1 match and a best-of-three series.
Meanwhile, Spirit will immediately go back to the drawing board to figure out what happened on their T side. The chopper-led squad had secured an initial 12-5 lead over their regional rivals, but struggled to claim more than a single gun round on the offense.

Aurora now seem poised to bring their success to LAN after being one of the standout teams in online competitions over the last four months. The Russian squad secured victories from CCT South Europe Series 2 and Series 3, claiming victories over the likes of GamerLegion, 9INE, and Bad News Eagles in the process.
This is not only the lineup's first Regional Major Ranking event, it's their first LAN tournament since they came together in January 2023 with the arrival of Ivan "SELLTER" Miroshnikov.

The favorites have prevailed in the other three matches of the first round that have taken place so far. The day began with Cloud9 and HEROIC claiming comfortable wins over FORZE and 500, and BIG passed iNation without too much drama, only struggling to close it out at the end of Anubis.
