Cloud9 come back to deny Eternal Fire upset

From down 0-9 on Vertigo, Cloud9 came back to win the match in overtime and send the Turks to the elimination zone.

Cloud9 have advanced to the 2-1 pool at the BLAST.tv Paris Major Europe RMR B after surviving a scare from a competitive Eternal Fire squad. The Turks had Cloud9 on the ropes with a hefty lead in the first half of Vertigo, but ultimately fell in overtime after the favorites matched their superb defense.

Abay "⁠HObbit⁠" Khassenov led the way to the impressive comeback with several crucial plays late in the match in defense of the A site, such as one double when his team was down 10-13 and another with just an MP9 against superior weaponry to force overtime.

The 28-year-old finished the match with 32 kills, a 1.43 rating, and 102.3 ADR despite getting off to a rough start individually with a 0-7 score.

Eternal Fire will undoubtedly rue the missed opportunity as they head to the 1-2 pool, where they will play best-of-three series from here on out.

The Turks need to win at least the next match to stave off elimination, and two in a row to secure a place at the BLAST.tv Paris Major. Another spot is also available in the last-chance qualifier for teams who finish the Swiss group with a 2-3 record.
