Heroic 2-0 NAVI to make IEM Rio grand final

The Danes ended NAVI's eight-map winstreak on Ancient to close out the series.

HEROIC have advanced to the grand final of IEM Rio after securing a 2-0 victory over Natus Vincere, surviving a triple-overtime affair on Overpass (25-22) before dominating Oleksandr "s1mple" Kostyliev's side on Ancient (16-9 after a 14-1 first half) to close out the series.

The Danish team return to a grand final in the Jeunesse Arena for the second time in less than a year, and will be hoping that things will go differently this time around after showcasing an uptick in form in recent months and a much stronger mentality overall, as displayed in this matchup.

Heroic will have a second chance to lift a trophy in the Jeunesse Arena

The series seemed set to go the distance and it surely delivered at the onset, a fantastic start on the T side for HEROIC and a plethora of highlights from both teams contributing to an action-packed affair on Overpass. The teams were deadlocked at the halfway point of the first map, but after the side swap, NAVI looked ready to run away with things as they reached map point first, 15-12.

Two rounds back from HEROIC still didn't worry NAVI and they recovered a 3vs5 situation into what looked to be a sure-fire round win on the B bombsite, but a squandered plant from Denis "electroNic" Sharipov and a failure to recover that situation by Ilya "Perfecto" Zalutskiy allowed HEROIC to force overtime. There, Natus Vincere had two more chances to close out the map, but Casper "cadiaN" Møller's men kept themselves in the fight and forced two more overtimes, converting upon their first map point to close out their pick.

The disastrous fashion in which NAVI let Overpass slip came back to bite them, their mentality seemingly shattered on the T side of their Ancient pick. HEROIC mustered a dominant 14-1 lead at halftime — with NAVI's only round win coming from a 1v3 clutch by s1mple — before putting a halt to a brief comeback effort from Andrey "B1ad3" Gorodenskiy's men, doing what their Ukrainian opposition could not by securing two rounds on the attack to secure victory, 16-9.

"We knew we had more energy than them," Rasmus "sjuush" Beck said on the broadcast after the match. "We knew when they last ate, we ate right before the match and they haven't eaten for five hours or something, so mental-wise we knew we were stronger.

"We focus a lot on positive vibes, like body language, how do we help each other, showing positive body language," sjuush continued when asked about the team's mentality and inability to be upset by lower-ranked teams. "We get so much energy just by giving a knuckle [fist bump], a smile, eye contact. We think about sleep, what we eat, drink, everything."

He went on to discuss why HEROIC were so dominant on Ancient, stating that they focused on NAVI's mid control and knew setups based on what grenades were thrown. "We knew how many they were mid if they did specific nades, and how many were B if they did take mid. If we got mid control for free we knew it was most likely going to be B, or something towards A."

Not at all though, Navi is a known kryptonite of heroic also heroic lost the veto because on papers Heroic were good on ovp but Navi had a streak on ancient and no one could predict the 14-1 Inferno was also in favour of Navi because heroic lost it to furia

NPC and Defecto threw the game on 15-14 overpass, it was gonna be the easiest 2-1 in an alternative universe if they used their brains in that round or at least communicated.

it was unfortunate but considering that electronic planted in the open and dropped bomb idk if Perfecto is even the main reason they lost that round

Not really a fan of either team but the only players I'll respect on the stage are all danish. Magisk and Dupreeh ftw. That cadian moment vs furia was hilarious. He screams like an idiot most of the time but that was gold. If heroic didn't scream like idiots and have that cheating stuff hanging over them I'd be a big fan. They actually operate as a team and don't seem to have interviews every 2 weeks where they name check a player who "has to carry in big games" or "could be the best" etc.

The cheating shit gets cried about too much tbh. It's not like they were running around like akumo with radar hacks and shit. Hunden used the spectator bug a few times in a handful of matches, of which we don't really know how much impact it had on their wins. It's leagues away from the cheaters you run into on MM servers.

Ppl blame the players too much when it isn't even confirmed that they did anything, and even if they did collaborate in a way hunden would've gotten solid proof of it, like the genius he is Personally, my problem is with him. He's on the level of serial matchfixers, cheating players and etc. with what he did

Good game on ovp, but it was a f*cking unreal luck of the fortune for heroic on the 30th round, which had to go for navi. It happens 1/100000000, and heroic had a biiiiiig luck that time. It's just what set the results. Unfortunately for navi. See you on the major with luck

NAVI trolled Overpass so this isn’t a surprise at all, that’s what happens when you let the opportunity slip. Now, seeing how they got stomped on Ancient and how solid Heroic looked vs FURIA, I’m actually glad they mad it to the finals, all I hope is that it’s not an easy 2-0 win for anyone.

Heroic must be the most rounded team in top 10. Every player pulls their weight and there is no real star player.

Heroic always contenders but rarely win the trophy, of all top teams it's probably my favorite but they srsly need to step up just a tiny bit more

Good game for NaVi. They were really good on the Overpass and already win. There was strange view on the first half of Ancient, but then we saw the same - Heroic also almost lose T-side. Okay, NaVi didn't win. It's the game, everything may happen. I'm only little bit nervous about B1t. I think, he lost the "junior" status, and sometimes Npl performs better. So it may be the problem for Valeriy - he may feel like "the weakest part of the team" and can't find right place for himself. It will take the time for him to recover.
