Apeks defeat OG to secure first Brazy Party playoff spot

The European combine top Group A and move on to the single-elimination stage at the online event.

Apeks became the first team to qualify for the Brazy Party playoffs after defeating OG in a two-map series. As is the norm in the games at the $333,000 event, the first map of Ancient went the distance after the teams couldn't be separated in regulation, nor the first overtime. Apeks were able to edge ahead in the second, however, ending up 22-20 winners on their opponents' map pick.

Next up was Apeks's pick of Anubis, and the Damjan "⁠kyxsan⁠" Stoilkovski-led squad outlasted OG once again, this time in a 29-round affair. A solid T side meant they went into the second half three rounds ahead, which was enough for them to secure a 16-13 victory alongside first place in Group A.

Joakim "⁠jkaem⁠" Myrbostad and Justinas "⁠jL⁠" Lekavicius had fantastic showings and were crucial in Apeks' narrow victory. The Lithuanian put up a 1.34-rated performance, while the Norwegian sat just behind at 1.31.

Apeks looked to have found a good fit in kyxsan

Apeks, who are playing the online tournament from a bootcamp setting in preparation for the Paris Major, will be pleased with their showing at the event so far. Victories against Eternal Fire in the opening round and OG in the progression match secured a playoff spot for the European squad. Their quarter-final opponents are currently unknown, but they are set to meet one of the second-placed teams from the other three groups.

On the other side of the server, OG will be disappointed after losing to a fellow Paris Major Challengers Stage team. The loss isn't the end of the road for Abdul "⁠degster⁠" Gasanov and company, as they are set to face off against Eternal Fire on Sunday at 11:00 for a playoff berth.
