G2 vs. FURIA elimination series headlines Legends Stage round 3 matches

FaZe will face off against 9INE in the other elimination match, and the second day will also see four teams play for a place in the playoffs.

The third round of matches at the BLAST.tv Paris Major Legends Stage have been set following the conclusion of round two, which saw G2, FURIA, and FaZe all be sent down to the do-or-die 0-2 pool in Paris.

The third round of play will see a mixture of best-of-ones and best-of-threes, with a tantalizing duel between G2 and FURIA undoubtedly being the highlight.

The European roster and Brazilian outfit have been cast straight down to elimination territory after a disastrous first day, one which saw G2 let a 10-5 lead to Bad News Eagles slip and FURIA be unable to post a single T-side round in two maps. Both sides will need to bring their A-game if they wish to fight on in France.

G2 must beat FURIA if they wish to avoid an early elimination in Paris

The other must-win matchup of the third round is between FaZe and 9INE, with Finn "karrigan" Andersen's men a loss away from an early exit after suffering a 12-16 upset loss to Into the Breach in the 0-1 pool. Conversely 9INE, who completed a Cinderella run at the Europe RMR to earn a Legends Stage berth, have struggled to enjoy a hot start with losses to Liquid and GamerLegion, and now require a win over FaZe to keep their fairy tale run going any longer.

HEROIC and Liquid will lock horns in the 2-0 pool, both sides eager to earn an early berth to the playoffs after putting up flawless records on day one. The North American roster was bolstered by a world-class performance from Mareks "YEKINDAR" Gaļinskis, and will undoubtedly need their Latvian star to step-up once more if they're to take the Danes — one of the tournament favorites — in a best-of-three setting.

Vitality could earn their organization — Dan "apEX" Madesclaire and Mathieu "ZywOo" Herbaut — an appearance in front of their home crowd should they move past Monte in their 2-0 affair. The best-of-three will be a rematch of the two teams' meetings at the RMR in Denmark, where the Franco-Danish-Israeli mix got the better of Viktor "sdy" Orudzhev's troops in a hard-fought 2-0 battle to earn a Legends Stage berth.

The most intriguing matchup of the 1-1 pool comes in the form of Natus Vincere and Ninjas in Pyjamas, who enter the server for the second time in a month after last meeting at IEM Rio in April. The Nordic mix kept things close, but ultimately faltered at the hands of Denis "electroNic" Sharipov's squad, and will now look to get revenge to avoid being cast down to the 1-2 pool, where fears of a Major exit become ever more extreme.

Liquid = always dangerous team when "ON" They are great individualities. They have been struggling for a while but they still sometimes had close match with players being like 80% at best. It was obvious when ( and if ) YEK/NAF/EliGE found form they would be dangerous. I'd like to see them with a better AWPer though at some point, imo, that would make them instant top 1 contenders.

To be honest G2's loss is on them ( not the first one they probably win without some absolutely umprobable clutches from ZyGod ) . They had it but let it slip doing absolutely WTF moves, especially NiKo who forced way too much unnecessary duels/peek just like to prove a point. On the other hand FaZe and FURIA are where they belong, they have been on a downward spiral for a while now, and sorry but if you can't beat IntoTheBreach on effing inferno, one of the most played maps, even in BO1, you have no place in Champions Stage.

I can agree to that. Just goes to show that even if you don't underestimate lower-tier teams, they can still capitalise on mistakes.

Yep, this format is unforgiving that's for sure. Lower team can even prepare for the map where it will be played in most cases. Personally I find the combo of ridiculous seedings + BO1 stupid, either one would be okay but now we are getting less teams that have big fanbase etc in the Arenas and WTF final phases like in Rio because of that. All that for teams that will get mauled out of Major in quarters generally.

I was on the fence before but all this does is confirm that Bo1 is just objectively bad. G2 and Furia should never be in an elinination match ever.

Partially agree but Faze lost 3 Bo3s in RMR too. The only really unexpected team in elimination is G2

They should have been 1-1 if they didn't tilt and try to play like they wanted to make a point to show they were better. Litterrally so much ego picks / dumb moves when they had the map in their hand. FaZe on the other hand is clearly a team that's ending a cycle : apart from their million dollar win, they have been subpar and looking worse and worst for like 8 monthes now. I wouldn't be surprised if they get the boot pretty quick, but anything is possible since their are aimstars. FURIA have been awful too since they " changed " their playstyle to the complete opposite of their nature, so them getting out'ed wouldn't surprise me either.

Seeding system is an absolute joke. That combined with the BO1 format gives you match ups where big teams that got upset will face eachother fast in the decisive BO3. Ridiculous. Not to mention they'll get a bad seed if they go through so they'll face the strongest team in quarter finals while clown/outsider team that upset will face eachother into the semis...

Turns out, your name or brand doesn't give you the win by default, you have to earn wins in games.

I don't criticize this, when you can't beat ITB on inferno you can't complain. What I'm more skeptical about is the seeding which is ridiculous ( both pre tournament and intra tournament ). Do people really think most of these teams that upset would win BO3 ?? We'll get the answer soon, and most of them will get trounced in quarter if not before, but thanks to sending good teams that will eliminate themselves in 0-2 1-2 etc we might get a sh*t final bracket like in Rio... :'(
