Heroic eliminate FaZe to secure semi-final berth in Paris

The Danes reach the semi-final as they aim for their first Major title.

HEROIC have eliminated FaZe in the first quarter-final of the BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023 in a three-map barn burner (Nuke 16-14, Overpass 12-16, Mirage 16-6) to move on to the final four in Paris.

Martin "stavn" Lund joined the broadcast for a post-match interview, where he talked about his team’s resilience after losing the second map. “We’re just really good at resetting in general, and we know Mirage is a really strong map for us and we got to start CT, we’re always really happy with that. We were just feeling really confident, and we're definitely ready to go all the way,” he concluded after topping the server with a 1.20 rating.

With this quarter-final over, HEROIC are now waiting to play the winner of Monte versus GamerLegion in the semi-final. For FaZe, who had to battle from behind at both the RMR and the Legends Stage, this marks the end of their Major journey after some spirited performances.

Heroic have made the Major semi-finals once again

FaZe got off to a hot start in the opening Nuke by going up 5-1 before HEROIC put up an impenetrable wall on the defense to win nine in a row and go into their offensive half 10-5 ahead. A pistol round put them 14-5 up and their win looked like a matter of when, not if. FaZe had other ideas, though, and a Robin "ropz" Kool-powered CT side meant they didn't go down lightly. They clawed their way to a 14-15 scoreline but lost out to a 2vs3 conversion by Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard and Casper "cadiaN" Møller to drop the map in regulation.

Next up was Overpass, and the map was a near replica of the first, with just the roles reversed. HEROIC got to a 4-3 lead before FaZe put down the hammer to take a 15-5 lead. With HEROIC this time tasked with a monumental comeback, they did their best and reached 12 before running out of steam, meaning a decider was needed.

The decider of Mirage was one-way traffic all the way through, as FaZe were unable to break through HEROIC's A defense and slumped to a 12-3 deficit at the half. The second half didn't go much better for them despite winning the pistol, with the Finn "karrigan" Andersen-lead team bowing out of the Major with a 6-16 loss.

The Danish IGL gave an honest review of their performances in a post-match interview. "I’m just proud of the guys today, like give a hand to them, they were fighting so hard to comeback and perform here on the stage… I think after we won the Grand Slam, we haven’t found the same confidence and the same game,” he said after their exit.

They had last Era in current CS so yes they did, Last IGS winner etc. Without karrigan FaZe would won all recents Majors and like 4/5 tournaments Karrigan with 6/30 stats with 90% is totally useless, especially when FaZe play pub/mm style, no teamplay style. FaZe play 4vs5 90% time unlike other top20 teams Karrigan is just too greedy and selfish to leave himself, he want to get as much money as he can and youngsters are too scared to challenge his authority in team

I don't know what matches you watched but karrigan stepped up in many of them and was one of the reasons they went so far. The team as a whole is not at 100%. You have broky, ropz, rain and twistzz. Karrigan is not even supposed to get 1.20 rating.

This is such a naive perspective and it lacks all sorts of context and nuances. Karrigan is the reason why Faze didn’t win every single event? Go to the stats page on HLTV. Sort by lowest rating in top 20 teams. Spoiler alert: it’s all IGL’s. Literally the only top teams with high-rating-IGL’s are Na’Vi, Heroic and Outsiders. Na’Vi haven’t won anything since getting rid of Boombl4 - who by the way wasn’t getting particularly high ratings. With Outsiders and Heroic it’s because of their roles as AWP’ers. My point is that you can’t just claim that Karrigans poor individual performance is the reason Faze is not winning everything, because you have to compare it with the other tier 1 teams, and it’s all the same for G2, C9, Vitality and so on. They all have low rating IGL’s. Having compared top tier teams’ IGL’s with each other, one would make the argument that these teams with low rating IGL’s aren’t winning as much. Well here’s an overview of the most recent top tier tournaments. liquipedia.net/counterstrike/S-Tier_Tour.. As you can see it’s absolutely packed with Faze, G2 and Vitality. The three teams with arguably the individually worst performing IGL’s. So is Karrigan by definition the problem for Faze? Not likely. Twistzz and Rain have also been underperforming lately. Instead you put up some pretty nasty accusations about Karrigan and his incentives - stuff of which you obviously know absolutely nothing about, and that therefore just discredits your original point since it’s such a central part of your attempt to argue. Have a nice day

You say there is even worse individually skilled IGL than karrigan, you don't know anything about top scene "So is Karrigan by definition the problem for Faze? Not likely. Twistzz and Rain have also been underperforming lately." Guy who get 6/30 stats in 90% of his games "its not likely" the problem? Are you serious?? Twistzz play most of time good, even when he underperform who is way better than karrigan You cannot expect that all 4 players carry team alone and wait that 10% that karrigan does actually something useful (seem that he lose aim duels like almost always). I partly agree, that rain is also problem. FaZe should hire best entry in CS:GO scene, after all they are the richest team in eSport history. Then they should hire IGL from Heroic, Outsiders or NaVi. After that we would see their full potential.

"You say there is even worse individually skilled IGL than karrigan, you don't know anything about top scene" I'm sorry, but where do I say that? I don't. I emphasize that fact that almost all top teams have low rating IGLs. Go to the stats page on HLTV, set time filter to last 12 months and set ranking to top 20. The list goes like this: Snappi 0.87 nitr0 0.89 Karrigan 0.89 Dexter 0.90 Apex 0.90 Nafany 0.94 F1ku 0.94 Gla1ve 0.95 Aleksib 0.95 Karrigan is low, yes, but you have to compare him to the other IGLs and not to the star players in the team. Since it is so close on ratings between all the IGLs, you should instead judge him on his calling and not his individual output. You are just repeating your claims from your last comment. Yes, he has a bad rating, but so do almost all IGL's. The teams that have won almost all recent top tier tournaments have all got low rating IGL's. Hooxi, Apex and Nafany have poor ratings as well. Therefore you can't just conclude that an IGL's low rating is the reason that a team is not winning, since almost all tournament winning teams have equally low rated IGL's. "Then they should hire IGL from Heroic, Outsiders or NaVi." This is just flat out dumb and it seems kinda ironic when you started the same comment by saying that I didn't know much about the top scene. Heroic and Outsiders have AWP'ers as IGLs. Faze already have Broky. Would you play double AWP as a standard, or would you have CadiaN or Jame rifling and not expect a huge drop in rating? Come on man... Electronic as an IGL for an English speaking org? There's a huge language barrier there. Yes he can do interviews in English, but everyone knows how difficult it is for pros to shift to another language in game. Dupreeh and Magisk have been very outspoken about this after going to Vitality, and they sure to hell are a lot better in English than Electronic.

Broky was bought as a cheap awp'er from Epsilion with potential but noone expected him to become one of the top dogs in csgo scene. Twistszz was already a star player before joining FaZe and was brought in to carry. Nice try though.

Broky actually improved massively, people forgot that he's insane with rifler, for me he's a better rifler than he's an awper. Everytime he has an AK in his hands, he's crisp. But well, you gotta do what you gotta do. I like him as a player because he does a lot of combat awping and that makes him very unique and he handles pressure situations very well when he's alone.

The difference between frags is very large. Being a IGL is not a excuse to underperform so bad like that.

I get what you are saying however he is 33y old. Reaction does slow down with time and he's competing with 5-10 year younger players. That is why they paid Twistszz the big bucks to be star rifler along Ropz and Rain. His igl'ing is second to none otherwise he would have replaced robbaN some time ago. If anyone needs replacing it would be Rain (not as consistent) and Broky if they want another star in team (Broky is consistently good but almost never outstanding).

I was referring to the fact that it went three maps, even if they got stomped on the last map, nobody expected them to win Overpass and even take it to a third map.

The game delivered on the first 2 maps. And I am happy that karrigan will keep on playing cs. It will be a very sad day when he retires. Just a legend since 1.6 days. But Faze seems to need some rest especially twistz seems to be in a slump. Seems like Heroic will be in another final.
