Sangal release kory, bench ScrunK

With the team sliding down the world rankings, Sangal have sought to revamp their lineup.

Turkish organization Sangal have announced the release of Kornél "⁠kory⁠" Szedlár from his contract and the benching and transfer-listing of in-game leader Robin "⁠ScrunK⁠" Röpke. The news comes in the wake of Sangal’s slide from just outside the top 30 in the world rankings to outside the top 50 over the course of the year.

HLTV have been informed that Sangal already have replacements lined up and expect to be able to announce them in the coming weeks.

Sangal hit the organization’s peak ranking of No. 33 late last year in the wake of their showings at the IEM Road to Rio Europe RMR and the BLAST Premier Fall Showdown, narrowly missing out on Major qualification in the former event and scoring a win over then-world No. 15 BIG in the latter.

Form has been harder to come by for the majority-German roster since then, with Sangal failing to achieve any notable placings in online events in 2023 and missing out on the BLAST Paris Major Europe RMRs. This waning form hit the team despite adding coach Klesti "⁠stikle-⁠" Kola, previously of Bad News Eagles, at the start of the year.

Max "⁠PANIX⁠" Hangebruch was brought into the lineup in April in the wake of the team’s underwhelming start to 2023, but even with him leading the way for the team with a 1.09 rating over the past three months, results did not improve significantly and more changes have been made.

"We want to thank both of these amazing players for being part of Sangal legacy and dedication to the team," Sangal said in their statement announcing the changes. "Wishing them both only the best for the future."
