NIP dominated by Astralis, exit IEM Cologne with a whimper

The Nordic squad rolled over and offered little resistance as Astralis eliminated them from the tournament.

b0RUP produced his best performance yet in an Astralis jersey

Astralis produced an imperious performance to see off Ninjas in Pyjamas 2-0, eliminating the Nordic squad with wins on Vertigo (16-6) and Ancient (16-6). The trio of Johannes "⁠b0RUP⁠" Borup, Nicolai "⁠device⁠" Reedtz and Benjamin "⁠blameF⁠" Bremer were in excellent form throughout the series.

Astralis stay alive in Cologne and will take on MOUZ in a lower bracket semi-final bout, with that game going down on Tuesday.

Ninjas in Pyjamas were disappointing in Germany, scraping through the play-in before being comfortably dispatched in back-to-back matches. Some of their individuals produced flashes of brilliance at times, but as a team Ninjas in Pyjamas were a step below their opponents.

Vertigo kicked off this series and Ninjas in Pyjamas started brightly on offense, taking a 5-1 advantage thanks to some potent fragging by Daniil "⁠headtr1ck⁠" Valitov. Once Astralis got guns up, however, they were utterly dominant, with b0RUP providing multi-kill after multi-kill to give his team a convincing win.

Over on Ancient it was much the same story, Ninjas in Pyjamas won a pistol round and started well, only to capitulate completely once their Danish opponents got a full buy into their hands. b0RUP continued to perform well, but device and blameF were right up there with him, the latter duo pulling of a strong 2v4 to ensure a convincing scoreline.

Not at all - I have high hopes for NiP, they beat Vitality and went toe-to-toe with them, so there are flavours of excellence when everybody on NiP is performing but otherwise, they are probably the most inconsistent team still playing in tier 1 right now...

I was joking. And I agree. I think they should keep the hampus headtr1ck k0nfig core, maybe give REZ one more chance too. But Brollan needs to go. NIP is playing 4v5 or 3v5 way too often.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. REZ and Brollan should be lighting up the server every match but they need more consistent players at the end of the day. Obviously the problem is a very limited talent pool in Sweden if they want to stay full Swedish, but if NiP are currently speaking English and are already international, then that increases the size of their talent pool, which is good.

I disagree with you on keeping the core. Konfig is most inconsistent t1 player and any team having him cannot constantly post good results. Agree brollan has to go but what other options do NIp have as of now?

Well, you're wrong about k0nfig. Is he the picture of consistency? No. But he has a very high ceiling and he's been really good lately, and it's clear that he brings a lot of good vibes to the team. I like to watch Swedish streams whenever NIP play, and it's clear that most Swedes are very happy with k0nfig, he gets a lot of praise from the casters and chat alike.
