Astralis announce overhauled women's roster

The Danish organization looked to build their new lineup with players from their home country.

Astralis W have completed their rebuild by announcing a majority-Danish roster built around in-game leader Aurora "⁠aurora⁠" Lyngdal. The new squad now features ex-Flames Shieldmaidens player Josefine "⁠josefine⁠" Jensen alongside Anja "⁠anja⁠" Soelberg, Marie "marie" Ellen Toft Sørensen, and Marie "maliTy" Kragelund Holm.

The announcement comes a month after Astralis announced their decision to overhaul their female team following an underwhelming stint for the European lineup. The Danish organization decided to focus on their home country for their new squad, aiming to build a long-term project and "develop players who can compete at the highest level" in the coming years.

Astralis fe to rebuild around aurora

The previous Astralis W lineup struggled to find their footing over their eight-month stint under the crimson banner, only registering one match win in the HLTV archives during that period. The team also failed to qualify for ESL Impact Katowice earlier this year and missed out on the LAN finals in Dallas after finishing in 9-10th place in ESL Impact League Season 3.

Astralis W's announcement comes just 10 days before the start of the open qualifier stage for ESL Impact League Season 4, from which a total of four European teams will advance to the group stage.

"Since spring, the organization has been considering forming a Danish women's team," commented Astralis' Sports Director Kasper Straube. "Now we are at a point where we can take the next step and present the team that can now call themselves Astralis players.

"The team is by no means the favorite to win titles from day 1, but the goal is that over the coming years, we will develop players who can compete at the highest level.

"I'm very pleased that we can continue to build around Aurora, who understands our values and has been a part of Astralis' women's team since before we even started," the Danish director continued.
