Xai nominated peripheral of the year

SteelSeries Xai Laser Mouse was announced to be one of the nine nominees for Engadget peripheral of the year.

The already well-award SteelSeries Xai Laser Mouse has been put up against eight other peripherals, in the Endgadget 2009 Awards for peripheral of the year. Amongst the other nominees are the Apple Magic Mouse and the Palm Touchstone.

You can vote for what peripheral you think deserves to be the bests of 2009, by making your way onto the voting, which can be found here.

There is a total of twenty-three awards, so take your time and look through what products you think deserves a 2009 Engadget award. The voting will close on February 20, so be quick while there is still time.

The Xai is an overhyped piece of shit. The only reason it is so popular is because every review done on it was by a SteelSeries partner/affiliate/sponsorship beneficiary or a clueless idiot that doesn't know jackshit about specifications in relation to computer gaming mice.

So, the fact about the specifications, that you can emulate any other mouse on the Xai, makes it bad for gaming? I'm just curious, why you think it is a bad product.

So you can emulate an optical mouse on a poor quality laser mouse now? Cool beans. Anyway I am disregarding anything you say for the sheer fact that you are paid to endorse SteelSeries products, I mean you aren't going to admit the Xai's faults when you are being paid to promote it are you?

First of all, I’m not paid to endorse anything. I can say I would never play with the Kinzu, due to the acceleration, there you go. Maybe I said it out wrong, but you can emulate the feeling of other mice on the Xai. Still, I´m eager to hear your exact reasons why it is a piece of shit. Oh and last, I’m not going to admit any faults on the Xai, as I don’t know any and I’m not the creator of this peripheral.

I studied the web a little and some write that the acceleration (which is postetive), can be removed with a mouse fix (or CPL mouse fix or what ever they call it). Personally I'm using the Xai, but haven't tested the mouse fix on the Kinzu yet.

why you need a mousefix since you can turn acc off in kinzu ? or is there some problem with that feature ?

There is some acceleration on the Kinzu, even though you turned it off. If the web tells the truth, then its possible to removed with the mouse fix.

you can terminate it by deleting 2 entrys in your OS registry so no biggie with that i have kinzu and it works perfectly fine. besides i find that barely noticable acceleration quite handy because i play on low sense and it helps me ingame when default acceleration would be too much

i think it CANT be disabled, kinzu tracks up to 50IPS, pass 1.27 m/s then you get negative accel. the kinzu sucks imo, but xai is awesome

totally agree, I have XAI for two months now or so and I'm very pleased with it. The only thing I'd point out is the wheel, which feels a bit stiff, I have a problem with bunnyhopping (when +jump on mwheeldown)

What faults are there outa interest? The slight positive-acceleration people are talking about is really not noticeable at all (depends alot on what settings you're using). Been using one for ages now and it's better then the 3.0 and deathadder I used before... Can bet you aint used one though :P

there is also an issue with precision: kinda hard to explain, but the mouse "wants" to move up-down and left-right only, if u want to move diagonally its much harder work. pic kinda explains issue: img42.yfrog.com/i/attach1mice.jpg/ this is with newest drivers, also happens with oldest.

I have the XAI on SS qck heavy. And the xai works great. There is like 1/2% positive accel. But the fact it stores settings & hz, makes it a wonderful mouse. So the 1/2% it's worth it.

Mx510 and Mx518 Because of the laser being able to work on any mat. And because of the perfect deep shape for the hand and thumb. Tried the Roccat Kone for a while, was fine except that my mousewheel broke after two days..And it is a bit big for my hand. And I dont really have that small hands. Never tried the Xai unfortunately, but I dont like the shape of it. It looks too much like the MS Intelli 1.1 which didnt have a pleasent feeling when moving it fast back and forth because of it not being in a perfect shape for the palm of the hand and the thumb.

I dont understand some people here.. Some of you didn't even try the mouse AND STILL THEY COMPLAIN ABOUT THE MOUSE, in the beginning I was worried to change optical to laser technology, but now im not regretted of doing it, xai has a great glide, great mouse buttons and a nice shape although i prefer my hold mouse shape ( MI 3.0 ). Concluding, Xai deserves this awards. ( Sorry about the two comments, forgot to write the phrase with caps lock )
