nafany on Cloud9 removal: "I was ready for it and maybe even happy with it"

A month into going official, Vladislav "nafany" Gorshkov and BetBoom have found success by qualifying for IEM Sydney.

BetBoom have qualified for IEM Sydney

nafany's stock as an IGL has fluctuated greatly during the last few years, with the highs of his Gambit days contrasted by the lows of his final days in Cloud9. The 22-year-old found himself out of the team in the off-season, as the organization signed Denis "electroNic" Sharipov and Ilya "Perfecto" Zalutskiy from Natus Vincere. He led the core of the team since 2019, and the longevity took a toll on the team, according to the the young IGL.

"We were together for a long time and grew a bit tired of each other in my opinion. I saw what Hobbit said and he thinks, seems like at least, that the problem was on me. But in general, I think that time said to us that we have to make some bigger changes in the biggest part of the team," he told HLTV in Belgrade.

"It's obvious that three players were building the team and making most of the decisions outside of coaching staff. It was mostly me, sh1ro, and Hobbit, because we have the strongest voices and it was pretty fair that one of us should go, and it was me. So I was ready for it and maybe even happy with it, because it's a new start for me, seems like a really good start, actually. But overall, as I said, it was just a matter of time that we had to make really strong changes."

nafany says that he has the full support of the BetBoom organization

Now, nafany has found himself on a new team almost immediately after he was benched by Cloud9, as he signed for BetBoom and assembled a team of his hand-picked players.

"BetBoom contacted me and they asked me if I want to try and build something new. They gave me the opportunity to decide which players I want to see in this team and which coach staff, they [the organization] really believe in me," he began describing the process.

The freedom he got from BetBoom enabled him to make swift moves in the market. "I instantly wrote to KaiR0N- and zorte that I want to play with them after a few days. I also said to BetBoom that I really want to try and play with s1ren, but the problem was that he was under contract with Spirit and the organizations had to agree on a buyout."

"The last player was danistzz, and it was kind of hard for me to decide who is going to be the final piece. I was speaking a lot with zorte and KaiR0N-, but the final decision was on me, and I just believed in him and it seems like he's a really promising player. Maybe he has some problems with in-game communication or understanding of the game, but again, he's pretty green. He doesn't know a lot, and he is learning really fast."

Negotiations between CIS organizations are often impossible, but BetBoom were able to get the signings over the line. It didn't happen smoothly, nafany adds. "We couldn't even actually practice before we signed a contract at BetBoom. "

His team just achieved their first qualification for a Big Event in IEM Sydney just moments before the interview, and nafany couldn't hide his happiness. "Actually it's a really nice feeling because I lost only like two tier-one tournaments because as far as I remember, Cloud9 played only Cologne and Gamers8."

"I didn't expect that it will be this fast, I expected that we need at least half a year to find our game. So overall I'm pretty happy that I have everyone in this team. I also have to mention that we did it without any analyst, without any coach, without any manager."

The lack of coaching staff is about to change, however, as nafany says that he already gave his input on the decision. "We are looking for a CIS-experienced coach. We have few ideas, but again, it's mostly on our organization. I just said to them something about who can help us and who will not fit. So it's just a matter of time before we will find the right man for us."

The Russian IGL also found himself in some arguments on Twitter recently, but he insists he takes the comments with a grain of salt. "I don't give a fuck actually," he began laughingly. "If people are saying something bad about me, sometimes it's true, sometimes it's not.

"For example, I saw that a lot of people say that groove was calling in the online era. And it's actually pretty strange because they don't even hear TeamSpeak, and I was there. Some things he helped with, but it's like how a coach should work, right? I was calling for most of the time and it's pretty funny to see people saying that I'm a bad IGL because groove was calling online and that I called much worse on LAN. But actually if you look at our first year on LAN, I wasn't so bad, I was actually pretty good," he finished off his defense.

An energized nafany then finished the interview by giving his team even more praise. "I believe that in this roster we will just play how we want and do what we want, and don't give a fuck about what haters say. And as I can see, everyone in this roster really wants to work, we don't have players who are here only for salary. And it's really important for me to know that everyone wants to be better."

Yes, they definitely had/have. It was mentioned multiple time in various interviews by nafany and other players that they had internal problems since rio major which were not fixed with interz kick. Also nafany indicated that he couldn't do his proper job as an igl cos other players intervened and groove never reacted. Also look at the recent hobbit interview. Thats toxic environment in my book.

I would be mad if in 50% of my calls sh1ro or hobbit would intervene, i mean 20% would be ok, but as this interview says 3 voice in team it's too much. +i am sure in a team comms sh1ro is full toxic and crying when things not going well. That is not good for team morale. He is very talented player no doubt, but i just have feeling that it is not enjoyable to play with him when team underperforms. Maybe i am wrong, but that is my opinion watching all lans they attend.

To be fair did you see the games BetBoom was playing? The players were just shitting on their opponents, especially against 9INE. Classic CIS peek, just instaheadshot. Reminded my of Gambit in the online period where theyd just instantly fuck up everyone on the first peek

I didnt say that electronic was the better choice. I was a huge Gambit/C9 fan and very sad when nafany left. I wouldve loved for them to go all the way in one of the majors or big tournaments, but they really didnt seem able to improve after a while

+1 I feel like electronic really isnt up to standard as IGL yet, but we'll see how things progress. I honestly feel like in the future sh1ro could completely take over as IGL, guy talks most of the time anyways. Also nafany said something along that line while he still was in C9

Hobbit seems to be that kind of second/third caller who doesn't want to take responsibility/be charged like an IGL is charged but likes to give opinions/decisions on the IGL game, knowing that if the team loses the blame won't fall on him because he is not the IGLxd. Disappointed by the interview he gave about Nafany. And GL BetBoom

Hobbit seem like he has a very big ego. I understand the context tho (part of the first cis team to win a major and the guy who made gambit hit another level) but even so, hes mid skillwise and seems like a pain in the ass.

Hobbit might have had more skills and experience (a while ago) but as a person nafany is humble and hobbit is arrogant. Hobbit was one of most beloved players on hltv a year ago. Now opinion is changing and his legacy might be as an alleged fixer and teammates kicker.

After you passed your mid life crisis, max If you already settled at your twenties, will be better for your future. but life can be so different to many people, and those who are settled in their 20s can experience their own crisis too in the future. dont force yourselves to have all the answer now, but it is a good thing to start thinking about your life seriously. Like what do you want, what principle in life you will stand by, what do you consider right or wrong etc -by someone in mid 20s, so please take it with a grain of salt

2023 was pretty much spent trying new things. I worked at three different places, dated a lot of different people and tried a few different approaches to life improvement in general. After all of that, i decided i want to stand with a few things: I want to seriously focus on my studies, i want to keep just two of the hobbies i tried and i want to get a driver´s license. Id say i gained a lot of knowledge about myself this year, wich is great. But i want to start making more "tangible" gains. I heard the brain is developing until 25 or so, so it will probably take a few years for me to really get stable. I agree with what you said " dont force yourselves to have all the answer now, but it is a good thing to start thinking about your life seriously." I believe im taking life more seriously now. Thanks for the advice! Even though we somewhat similar in terms of age, it is still good to listen to what other people think, and see how that can apply to ourserlves.

hopefully it's not a honeymoon phase and team will be improving step by step. So much work has to be done before sydney - do some work on nuke, cuz nafany clearly doesnt understand map well yet, zorte needs to find more impact with awp imo, if you look at rating numbers they might seem good, but in fact he does a lot of exit frags and we rarely see him in action and impact rating actually proves it, unless he plays with m4 and does some solo plays which obviously will be countered by any top teams. while i think kairon is a good player, i dont think his agressive playstyle gonna work in a long run and he will turn into patsi 2.0 for example, yesterday he was destryoing nip on mid on ancient on ct side, but today 9ine were able to stop him pretty easily.

I fell in love to Gambit 2021 with amazing nafany calls, nobody played like them and that's reason why they was the best. They was like SK 2.0 Sadly, that Hobbit and co not believed in nafany's vision/gamesense. What I'd really like to know is what groove was thinking and doing all the time since before interz kick. How could he even consider semi-retired Sanji or washed buster who didn't even bother to practice on the bench? What has he done to reduce the stress and establish IGLs authority when nafany's calls were ignored by sh1ro and Hobbit. Why did he change initial plan to kick Hobbit and took electronic as IGL?

Hobbit is NOT better than Nafany individually. Just do the eye test and see how often Hobbit whiffs and loses crucial duels. Nafany’s mechanics are noticeably crispier, especially considering obviously that he has less time to practice his aim (as an IGL)

Nafany is on a good path here. It's funny how much bad that has been said about him, and then he handpicks som players and instantly make them work. He's like the Russian karrigan at this point. Good luck forward - you really deserve more succes <3

I think it's too early to say that roster works. Sure it looks promising and they got some good results, but long distance is needed and we need to see them against better teams.

As for now it works - I'm no prophet, so obviously I won't be able to tell if it will work out in the long end.

clown9 has zero chance to win anything without a good leader like Nafany i didn't understand this kick move

Perhaps nafany isn't that great IGL but he's still better IGL than elec. I'd rather see C9 keep nafany, kick hobbit and let elec focus on his individual performance.

While i don’t think Nafany is a good IGL, he seems like a great guy, so i do hope they achieve some kind of succes

" I also have to mention that we did it without any analyst, without any coach, without any manager." - another reminder that all those guys actually are getting paid for doing nothing. Because in the end it's all about players on the server

3 days ago I created a thread “Hobbit = toxic?” and criticised Hobbit for throwing Nafany under the bus. Seems that’s exactly what happened. Sad that this thread got 404ed. Good luck Nafany and congrats on progress so far

And some people actually cropping out the second half of this para on twitter to make it seem like nafany is denying Groove's involvement in online era. Why are people like this? So effing sad.

hopefully it's not a honeymoon phase and team will be improving step by step. So much work has to be done before sydney - do some work on nuke, cuz nafany clearly doesnt understand map well yet, zorte needs to find more impact with awp imo, if you look at rating numbers they might seem good, but thats not enough.

lol, what else he can say? Leaving T1 team for T3, loosing chance to win T1 tournaments, loosing all these events for "Abrakadabra BETTING_SPONSOR_NAME Cup". "I wanted it such way, it was my choice!" Ahahaahaha, pathetic
