ENCE open EPL campaign with win over EG

ENCE took down Evil Geniuses to begin their ESL Pro League Season 18 run on the right foot, though the North American side did give the IEM Dallas champions a run for their money on Nuke with their inside executes, something which Álvaro "⁠SunPayus⁠" García and Guy "⁠NertZ⁠" Iluz admitted caught them off-guard in a post-match interview.

The Spaniard also touched on the difference between playing as the favorite and the underdog at an event like ESL Pro League, and explained why there wasn't much hype from the ENCE camp during the match.

Other than the Nuke scoreline being close, though, the series unfolded much as expected, with ENCE running away with things on EG"s Mirage pick to start things off.

Sporadic T side rounds in the first half didn't offer Colby "⁠Walco⁠" Walsh's men much room for forgiveness heading into their defensive effort, and although they mustered a handful of rounds at the start of the second half, sheer dominance from NertZ and Paweł "⁠dycha⁠" Dycha ensured that ENCE would have the lead heading into their own Nuke pick.

There, Evil Geniuses had a better start, winning four rounds on the trot before ENCE found their footing. From that point, though, SunPayus came alive and helmed a strong attacking effort for his team, with them leading 9-6 before EG again closed the gap at the start of the next half.

Their best efforts to force a decider map and a back-and-forth in the dying moments of the map resulted in a tie at 14-14, but ENCE then tightened up their play to clinch two final rounds and secure victory, 2-0.

Honestly not the worst attempt from an EG lineup as of late

14 rounds on nuke is good vs ence, but with EG it seems we always say 'wow better than expected' but in the end they never go past that and end up doing nothing, so what is it worth really

This is exactly how I feel lol. Nothing is expected of EG, yet they still manage to disappoint people.

Sadly, this is the price for saving NA CS :_( I hope in the future, with a NA scene revitalized thanks to CS2, fans and players will be thankful and proud of the work, time and money EG, CoL and other orgs/players/streamers put in keeping the dream alive.
