Video: Pros compare online vs. LAN in CS2

The pros have had their say on LAN vs. online play in the latest iteration of Counter-Strike, and a clear preference is emerging.

No matter what technology is implemented in Counter-Strike, there will always be a difference in how the game plays on LAN compared to how it plays online. Differences in ping, lag compensation, and various other factors will result in subtle changes to the way the game feels.

With a healthy number of games under their belt at the first tier one CS2 LAN, IEM Sydney, we decided to catch up with a number of pros to get their first opinions on how the game feels to play locally.

Joakim "jkaem" Myrbostad, Denis "electroNic" Sharipov, Marco "Snappi" Pfeiffer, Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski, Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken, Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, David "frozen" Čerňanský, Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli, and Ilya "m0NESY" Osipov all spoke with HLTV to weigh in on the topic.

It's even crazier: for more than fifteen years we know that for online servers you need tickrate above 100 for competitive play, now CS2 is learning that 128 tick is better than 64 tick - imagine their shock!

I think the subtick system theoretically works best for LAN environment. Whoever shot first simply wins. The same is awfully terrible online where lag is real. You can peek and kill someone without the other person ever seeing you, coz of subtick and lag. and it also buffs up rage hackers too
