After a string of early tournament exits, Liquid are reportedly changing out their head coach.

daps was supposedly set to take over the IGL reigns for Liquid as the scene transitioned to CS2

Liquid are on the verge of removing head coach Damian "⁠daps⁠" Steele according to a report from Dust2.us. No specific reason was mentioned for daps' impending removal, nor was any potential replacement.

With Aleks "⁠Rainwaker⁠" Petrov already on the bench and rumours circulating that Robert "⁠Patsi⁠" Isyanov is also on his way out, Liquid appear to be undertaking a significant overhaul of their squad, which was only put together during the most recent playerbreak.

daps joined Liquid mid-way through 2022 and oversaw their rise to No. 3 in the world rankings by November, during which time Mareks "⁠YEKINDAR⁠" Gaļinskis was brought into the fold.
The team achieved some promising results during the first half of his tenure, picking up second-place finishes at ESL Pro League Season 16 and BLAST Premier World Final, as well as a top four at IEM Katowice earlier this year.

A disappointing loss to Apeks in the quarter-finals of the BLAST Paris Major served as a prelude to an early exit at IEM Dallas, however, and prompted Liquid to overhaul their roster.

Liquid moved to bring in Patsi and Rainwaker in an effort to improve their fortunes, becoming a majority-European roster, but the moves flopped as the team exited every event they played early doors.

YEKINDAR IGL for BLAST Showdown; daps to take over for CS2

daps recently stepped into the starting lineup for the BLAST Fall Showdown, which the team came second to Complexity in, and YEKINDAR stated that daps would take over as the IGL for CS2.

I don't know why this is so shocking to people. Liquid's issue for the last SEVERAL years has been coaching. Liquid routinely has great to serviceable talents on their roster and have continually made, imo, exciting roster moves, but for years this team has not been able to reach their ceiling, close out games, or climb the ladder at all. I think this is 100% the right decision.

I think the reason people are shocked is not because of that but because of how extremely quickly Liquid imploded post-Paris. It literally took them only around 3 months before Liquid completely collapsed.

That's a good point! Although I have seen a lot of dissent on this decision on Insta and HLTV specifically because people are pro-daps. I'd also say that this collapse is definitely not the roster's fault. I think oSee is a good, even great, AWPer who is totally misused, yekindar has been butchered, NAF is NAF, and rainwaker and patsi are both very good players, and I can see the roster synergy between these talents, but daps has not found a way to get the best out of these players. ESPECIALLY since this roster DID work at first, they even looked like they could be the next big thing, but I think the coaching has not allowed this team to look like what they once did. tldr true +1 but still -daps

+1 Very true. They showed very good potential in the beginning which should have been a sign that things would work, but Daps failed to make it happen. Rainwaker needed a little more time. As soon as they benched him, everything went downhill. Players looked depressed and emotionless playing with Daps.

The failed half-assed EU venture was his idea which needed consequences. and tbf, assuming Liquid cadiaN becomes finalized and becomes real, no one knows how it'll go. Basically these are the problems I see right now: 1) Player adaptation. Will they be able to adapt to and do well in cadiaN's system? That's like the biggest question frankly. 2) Roles. Who's doing what? YEKINDAR is obivously likely going back to entry like he's always done pre-IGL stubbornness, oSee is likely going to convert to rifling while secondary AWPing if needed, but what do they do about skullz and NAF? I assume skullz will be the star player and get the roles that lets him shine the most, tho idk about NAF even if he's basically capable of doing anything. 3) skullz. How do they work with communication with him since even tho he understands english, being able to communicate is an entirely different story. I guess zews might help him with that the most but still.
