Complexity beat NAVI to make semi-finals in Copenhagen

Complexity's improved form in CS2 continues after a nail-biting victory against Natus Vincere.

Complexity have defeated Natus Vincere in the BLAST Fall Final quarter-finals in a three-map series (Anubis 10-13, Overpass 13-6, Nuke 13-10).

The North American team is now on a collision course with FaZe, who they will face off against on Saturday at 18:30 in a rematch of the IEM Sydney final.

Ricky "⁠floppy⁠" Kemery joined James "⁠BanKs⁠" Banks for a post-match interview and reflected on Complexity's key 2vs5 victory on Nuke. "I'm so glad we managed to pull that round out of our ass," he jokingly commented on the round that turned the tide on the decider.

Conversely, Natus Vincere are eliminated after coming agonizingly close to a semi-final spot in Copenhagen on Ihor "⁠w0nderful⁠" Zhdanov's debut event. Despite their exit, Andrey "⁠B1ad3⁠" Gorodenskiy was still satisfied with the Ukrainian's performance in the post-match interview. "He was doing great for the first event in a new system."

"We made some mistakes, maybe we were a little bit nervous. We are seeing what works and what doesn't, so we have more material to work with," B1ad3 said about their performance as a whole.

Natus Vincere picked Anubis in the series, even though the map has proved a comfortable one for Complexity. The start of the Egypt-inspired battleground was straightforward for Natus Vincere, as Valeriy "⁠b1t⁠" Vakhovskiy powered their 9-3 offensive half. The Ukrainian rifler found holes in the A defense time and time again and finished the half on 16 kills.

A second-half pistol got Natus Vincere in the driver's seat before Complexity forgot to plant in a 3vs1 situation. The North Americans didn't let that round crush their spirits, however, and got up to 10 rounds before Natus Vincere finally closed out a 13-10 victory.

Overpass was next, where Natus Vincere couldn't find anything on their defensive half despite winning the pistol. They put just three rounds on the board, but their half would have been much better if not for floppy's 1vs3 clutch against a half-buy. The European combine then won their second pistol round of the map and got up to six before once again petering out in a lackluster half that condemned them to a 6-13 loss.

Complexity won their first pistol in the series on Nuke and got off to an early lead, with Natus Vincere quickly clawing back the deficit and going 4-2 ahead. Jonathan "⁠EliGE⁠" Jablonowski then shifted into a higher gear and dragged his team back into the game as Complexity secured a two-round lead at the switch.

The second half was an explosive back-and-forth, with neither team able to take a commanding lead as the scoreline read 9-9. The game's crucial moment came in the following round, as Complexity closed out a 2vs5 situation to retake the lead. Håkon "⁠hallzerk⁠" Fjærli then put the icing on the cake with a 1vs2 clutch that helped Complexity secure a 13-10 victory alongside a semi-final spot at the BLAST Fall Final.
