Former Project X and MAJESTY owner gets lifetime ESIC ban for match-fixing and facilitating cheating

The esports watchdog has handed out an unprecedented sanction due to the seriousness of the breaches of its code of conduct.

The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has placed a lifetime ban on Alexey Shyshko, the owner of several now-defunct esports teams, including Akuma, MAJESTY and Project X, for his involvement in “orchestrating match-fixing activities and facilitating cheating within various esports competitions.”

The ban follows an investigation launched in June 2021 into potential match-fixing and betting fraud involving Shyshko, who had allegedly placed "numerous bets on highly suspicious Project X matches". At the time, ESIC recommended that its member events should not accept Akuma (which featured several former Project X players), a team made up of more than three members of its roster, or any team associated with Shyshko until the investigation was concluded.

ESIC’s probe, which included information relayed by confidential sources, betting evidence and match analysis provided by experts, determined that Shyshko “engaged in activities that flagrantly and consistently violated the principles of fair play and integrity central to the ethos of esports.” These primarily involved instances of match-fixing and facilitating cheating.

“In one egregious incident, Mr. Shyshko was implicated in facilitating a match-fixing agreement during a Bulgarian LAN event, involving Team Majesty, which he owned and controlled,” ESIC said, in an apparent reference to Bellum Gens Elite Stara Zagora 2020, MAJESTY's only recorded LAN appearance in Bulgaria.

“This plan, executed between August 20, 2020, and December 2, 2020, involved the deliberate manipulation of match outcomes with the promise of financial gain for the participating players.

“In another disturbing instance, during the "Time of Bet Cup" event, Mr. Shyshko provided Team Majesty with an unfair advantage by enabling unauthorized communication methods, significantly compromising the integrity of the competition.”

ESIC noted that Shyshko did not contest the charges and accepted the sanction.

This is the first-ever lifetime ban issued by ESIC, which “reflects the seriousness of Mr. Shyshko’s offenses and serves as a strong deterrent to others who might contemplate similar violations.” He is barred from participating in ESIC member events in any capacity, as is any team or player he is associated with.

In connection with this case, four Ukrainian players, including former Akuma member Dmytro "SENSEi" Shvorak, were handed two-year bans last week. And, according to ESIC, “further investigations and potential prosecutions remain in progress."

The esports watchdog explained that it granted immunity to individuals who provided valuable assistance to the investigation, a decision that, it highlighted, “underscores ESIC's commitment to encouraging reporting of unethical behavior while ensuring the safety and anonymity of informants.”

"The rigorous investigation and subsequent sanctions imposed on Mr. Alexey Shyshko and associated individuals reflect our resolve to confront unethical behavior head-on and protect the essence of fair competition," ESIC added.

"ESIC remains vigilant and proactive in identifying and addressing threats to the integrity of esports. We continue to refine our monitoring and investigative processes, working collaboratively with teams, players, and event organizers to foster an environment where fair play is paramount.

"We encourage all stakeholders within the esports industry – players, teams, organizers, and fans – to join us in this important endeavor. By working together, we can create a landscape that not only values competitive excellence but also champions ethical conduct and respect for the rules."

In a lot of countries, match-fixing is illegal, not sure about Ukraine (or wherever he’s from). The market in which they match fix could lead authorities to issuing a warrant for his arrest - but most likely nothing will happen since it’d be international legal issues. Too difficult to prosecute. IIRC, Finland (Elisa tourney?) was looking for some retribution for a matchfixing incident, can’t remember who though - Fiend? Def some satellite T3/T4 team.

do you really believe a young super-talent like w0nderful who is grinding cs since an early age would matchfix? when he can join t1 orgs and earn more money+win trophies? its obvious that he personally didnt matchfix anything Demqq - there's no evidence of him cheating in any way. All the cheating clips were by his ex teammates SENSEI and ?sergiz? (I dont remember). Maybe he knew, maybe he didnt.

I'm not talking shit. w0nderful was proven innocent and obviously never cheated or played with matchfixers on purpose. you must be really clueless to think that he actually matchfixed. it makes sense if you're low tier nonamer, w0nderful has been a rising star for many years and easily signed a fat cotract with NaVi. It's like saying that m0nesy matchfixed in NaVi Jr w0nderful is a clear talent with 1.28 rating past 3months and 1.11-1.17 vs top 5-30

Bullshit talk again. You don't have any knowledge, intuition or anything like that. Just empty words. >super talent >raiting 1.28 >against tier 2-3 team >when he played in team spirit he not showed skill even as top-10 sniper in cs:go >super talent As I said really bad analytic xDD

1. I know you are russian 2. He has 1.28 rating past 3 months and I also mentioned his high rating against top 5-20. I dont think that his last match VS NiP with 1.15 rating and 1.30 rating vs C9 were tier 2-3 matches 3. You also ignored the fact that there's no evidence of him matchfixing nor reason to do so as he can earn much more money in literally any org he wants. If I join MM and throw a game on purpose doesnt mean that my whole team are trollers, only me. Literally anyone who has some critical-thinking understands that a player with offers from t-1 orgs wouldnt matchfix for 1000 dollars XD

You make it sound so easy to just go and ban everyone without any evidence (sketchy clips is not an evidence, you need to check all the logs, all the bets and do tons of analysis in order to prove someone guilty) It's impossible to keep the track of every noname tier-100 event. there's at least 1 new matchfixing team every week.

What does it have to do with them being all from Ukraine? There have been similar cases with match-fixing or cheating for example Hunden which is already unbaned for no reason (he allegedly worked with ESIC on other cases, but nothing has happened since then and he got unban and somehow joined Astralis) or joel when he was betting against his own team and he is already unbaned aswell... or for example bubble there have been some scandal around him. There are tons of "pro" players that are trying to get around in this scene with match-fixing or cheating and ESIC doing almost nothing with this. Only when they get some money out of it or if pro player is big or famous they will let him go.
