gla1ve: "Negotiations were going on with some players and they're uncertain about their future"

gla1ve has entered an ENCE project that is at risk of falling apart before it can truly get going.

gla1ve is unsure of what his lineup will be going into 2024

"I have no idea what the future looks like," gla1ve tells HLTV after ENCE suffered a crushing last-placed elimination from BLAST World Final.

His side nearly pulled off a miracle, coming back from 10-2 down on Ancient to secure a decider, but ENCE's lack of practice and cohesion came back to bite them as they failed to convert an 11-5 lead on Nuke into victory.

But with that defeat, ENCE now go into the break uncertain of what roster it will field on the other side of it, a process that has destabilized Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander and Jakub "kuben" Gurczyński's project since their arrival.

kuben, in an interview with BLAST.tv, has also spoken out there being "five different scenarios in terms of which lineup [ENCE] are going to end up with" as a lineup.

It's sad that it's happening now when I've joined the team," the Pole continued. "I would love to work with a group of people that are eager to play for the org and for this lineup, but it's not happening yet."

We spoke to gla1ve about the pressure these negotiations add, the loose style necessitated by a lack of practice, and how players "don't work just as hard individually" when their future is up in the air.

Quite a crazy match that you almost pulled off. You fell short in the end, what are your thoughts on the game?

Pretty tough Anubis in the beginning. We tried to change positions a little bit and it didn't really work out. We had a bit of a better T side against Apeks last time but this time around there were some clutches that we lost and Anubis is a little bit tough. Probably, we are both a bit out of the meta, and maybe not on the same page on the map.

On Ancient, it was tough in the beginning and came back on the CT side. Didn't really call a lot on the T side this time around, because we wanted to try a different approach because we didn't have much practice time. But it actually didn't work either (laughs).

On CT side we made the comeback and just took it round by round.

Things were a little bit awkward in the first half on Ancient. No one was talking, no one was communicating. How can you explain such a turnaround?

We tried to communicate, but I don't think we all understand the map, or see the map, in the same way. We didn't have a lot of practice time. And yeah, just not on the same page. That's how it is. On CT side we felt more comfortable and, all of a sudden, knew how they played and we also saw that they don't have the biggest stratbook either. So, we knew some of their strats and this kind of stuff, and it was easier.

gla1ve still believes that he and kuben "can build a really good system"

The casters picked up on the fact that kuben said when you were down 5-0, that you guys like to play under pressure. Is that the case, does your team like it? Was the team, at one point, just not afraid of losing because you were down 10-1 at one point?

I have no idea, to be honest. I'm not sure how the other guys individually but for me it doesn't really matter if there's pressure or not. I just like to play CS. I like to win, and hate to lose. And that's what happened today. So yeah, bad day.

What can you say about the atmosphere in the team? Not just during the first stages of the match but also in the lead-up to the event, what is the mood like?

We tried to do as well as possible. They are some nice guys personally, we try to have as much fun as possible, but I think people are a bit uncertain about their futures, and that of course affects the team. We didn't really practice too much to be honest (chuckles) so of course that hurt us. But that's how it is. It's the end of the season. The other guys have been playing a lot, maybe feeling a little bit tired and all this kind of stuff. I understand it, and it is what it is. Now we will see about the future.

I also wanted to ask about those rumors, and the impact they may have had on the team. When did the alleged negotiations start happening, and did they have an impact in Finland?

Of course, it had an impact. We tried to do our best in Finland [at Elisa Masters Espoo] but we knew a lot of players were up for grabs in the future. So, right now, I still don't know what is going to happen. I can't say much, but negotiations were going on with some players and they are a bit uncertain about their future. And, of course, it affects the team because they probably don't work just as hard individually when you're a bit uncertain about the future. We tried everything we could, but this time around it wasn't enough.

What can you say from your point of view, just coming into a brand new team after so many years in Astralis. One of the most accomplished IGLs in the scene, you're coming in and then there's a possibility that a bunch of players are leaving. How are you taking that?

For me, it was kind of tough. I really wanted to find a team, and I think this team is really good. It has good individual players and good team spirit and these kinds of things. I talked to Snappi as well and he said they were really good guys. But, yeah of course it's a little bit sad that maybe one or maybe more will leave the team. I don't know yet. Kind of tough, but I knew when I signed the contract that it was possible that not everyone would stay. It's sad, I hope they will all stay, but we will see about the future.

If a rebuild is necessary, if you have to change one or more players, do you think you will be able to put together a competitive roster?

Of course. It depends on what players we get but if we get good players I think kuben and I can build a really good system to able to be succeed. So, hopefully, it will be really good and we are trying to get as good players as possible. A lot of people are under contract, and the roster lock for the Major or RMRs is really close, so we have to work really fast. We will try as much as possible and I have no idea what the future looks like.

karrigan is the best at integrating new players i would say. New players come in or stand ins and do very well very quickly in his teams. That and his calling in big games after a decade and a half of experience just gives him a deeper strat book and the confidence to execute it

Imagine opinion of someone who has HUNDEN as flair hahahahahahah also flag hahahaha nt washed nvidia one roster fraud. Winning majors vs ENCE and Avangar = peak CSGO hahahahah you are so delusional, even zonic and some astralis players themselfs said that 2022-2023 is harder and more competitive than 2018-2019. Also you just clearly showed you know nothing about CS calling 2015 low competition lmao. 2015 was more competitive than 2018-2019, you had Fnatic, EnvyUs, TSM, Virtus Plow, Nip, while Astralis had to constantly beat Navi with Zeus and Edward, NA CS Lulquid and Faze with constant stand-ins and later on no real IGL lmao. Get lost.

Karrigan has played with 16 different top 20 players since majors started, and even with all the talented players he's had, he still has only won 1. I don't mean to say he is a bad IGL, he's still accomplished more than every single IGL in the world, except for the GOAT. Gla1ve took the lineup that Karrigan failed multiple times to win with and turned them into the best team to ever touch Counter-Strike. You can give the old "but it was all Zonic!" excuse, but Karrigan also had Zonic as a coach and still failed to achieve a major. Gla1ve literally changed the way the game was played, he pushed the meta further than any IGL has. Sure, Karrigan is good at developing talent and creating good teams, but when the pressure was the highest he failed to lead his team to winning the most important tournament in CS (until Antwerp). Even now I think you can argue Karrigan has underwhelmed given what he has. On paper, his team is the most talented in the world and yet he only won the single major, he bombed out of Rio and didn't even make semis at Paris (beat by Cadian in quarter final). Gla1ve on the other hand had the most dominant era ever, and he didn't need to experiment with several different rosters to find one that could win. Sure, gla1ve fell off after 2019 but can you really blame him? He has a family now, a child, and has already accomplished everything there is to accomplish in CS. Karrigan may have more longevity but Gla1ve still did more in his 3-4 year run than Karrigan's 11 year career.

"free majors" you act like Astralis didn't stomp every top team at the time, specially the so called "super team" of which karrigan had always been surronded by super stars, to get through the finals. It's not like the scene was weaker back then, but rather Astralis has just too much ahead of it's time, and gla1ve is surely one of the mainly reasons of that. Karrigan is surely of the GOAT IGLs, but, please, have some respect for gla1ve.

Karrigan had constant stand-ins in 2018 against prime astralis, since olof kept taking his medical leaves and he still managed to beat Astralis number of times for example one time with freaking Xizt in IEM Sydney 2018…. Faze were in terrible situation after spring 2018 and most of the time Astralis were domination late 2018 till late 2019 Faze had no IGL at all, since Niko literally cried his way for karrigan kick so he could “joke IGL” for 2 years and achieve nothing.

"a number of times" They beat them 2 times in that year while Astralis destroyed faze 5 times and that was even before their entire era started lmfao. Also remind me again what Karrigan achieved with Astralis / TSM and now compare that with gla1ve who in the matter of 2 months won their first major and IEM katowice. Karrifraud have proved he can do nothing if not left with 4 star players fragging out of their minds. Just look what he did in Envy lmfao

Did you forget to take your meds or you are just obsessed with me that you literally have to reply to every single comment I made? You act like gla0ve would win majors with noob NA envyus, not even zywoo would take that team to major, also what did gla1ve win with Astralis once device left? Astralis without device were still much better team than NA envyus you are talking about lmao, hmmm? What did you achieve? Oh he can’t even get to the majors for straight 2 years hahahahaha. You must be so stupid holy moly, you call karrigan fraud since he “didnt win anything without 4 star players”, if you call 2019/2020 ChrisJ star player you must have some serious problems. He just won 5 events with TSM and was literally kryptonite to 2015 fnatic super team, he won 4 events in row with mouz before covid hit, he won everything with Faze there is, karrigan is consistently winning events for the past DECADE with different players and different language speaking line-ups since he is true leader and captain and exellent IGL. One roster fraud gla0ve won everything in his career in span of 3 years he was in Astralis while being absolute irrelevant bot rest if the 8 years of CSGO winning NOTHING. Every single trophy he has ever won was with zonic and greatest trio of players ever dupreeh, xyp9x and device. He was bot before he joined them and became irrelevant bot the moment they left him period. Joke gOaT IGL gla0ve winning zero trophies for the past 4 years just proves my point even more.

I bet you're also closing your eyes at the massive conflict of interest every time coL and faze plays in the same tourney now? Go ahead, try and play on the biggest level after being on the bench for a year or so (gla1ve) and have only 8 days practicing. Of course he was playing faceit and all these pugs, aim trainers and all that but still it doesn't come nearly as close as a normal practice day. On top of that, ENCE just lost their leader and a coach, the two most important guys in a team. And they played Cloud9, a team that has changed an IGL too but they most of them played together so it doesn't impact them as much as ENCE, and after that NAVI that "just" lost s1mple, even though he is hard to replace, it is still better for a team to lose AWPer than IGL and a coach

If NertZ, SunPayus, and Maden end up joining Heroic, I think that gla1ve and kuben can cook something up. Keeping dycha would make things easier for them because that's 1 less player needed, but also, I think he's decent. He's not the best of the best, but ENCE was never the best of the best either and he's a consistent player.
