Spiidi joins Sprout as performance coach

The German rejoins the organization he played under for five years, this time in a staff role after he decided to hang up his mouse.

Sprout have unveiled the addition of Timo "Spiidi" Richter as their Counter-Strike division's new performance coach. The 28-year-old German makes his first venture into the role after he ended his over decade-long playing career on Saturday.

Spiidi announces retirement

Spiidi is no stranger to the Sprout organization. He spent nearly five years there from 2017 to 2022 as a player across various German and international iterations of its Counter-Strike rosters.

He now forays into the new role to draw on his vast experience and help foster young players in the organization, which is well-known for giving opportunities to new talent.

"After I played half of my whole career here, I couldn't think of a better organization to be part of," Spiidi said. "With Sprout I got the opportunity to gather first experiences from coaching, which might be my next career step. I will focus mainly on the upcoming academy team but I will help out where I am needed."

"Following a stellar run in professional gaming, Spiidi's move to coaching heralds a new chapter in his Esports saga," a statement from Sprout reads.

"With an unmatched background of playing the highest number of maps and rounds, Spiidi's foremost aim is to foster the personal development of Sprout's emerging talents with the Main and Academy team, applying his rich experience to cultivate future Major contenders."

Daps was never the best player and still was a great coach for Liquid, why wouldn't Spiidi be good as performance coach? He has over a decade of experience and some of the most clutches on officials ever recorded

you cant compare spiidi and daps...completely other sides of the spectrum.

Okay well most of the old VP roster are now S tier coaches so why can't Spiidi be a good performance coach for a tier 2 team?

By most you mean 2, and come on dude how is the old VP guys comparable to Spiidi. The only good point you bring up is that it's tier 2, so I actually shouldn't care.

Both played a huge amount of officials and have a lot of experience in the game, Spiidi actually more in playing than any of the vp guys. My point is that you don't need to be a star player to be a good coach. No purpose to pretend that.

No need to be "good" in the game to become a somewhat succesful coach. Just look at Swani. Swani never played any official match and is by no means a good player (i mean like HLTV-good). He still was able to snatch 3 big titles with G2 as a coach. Spiidi on the other hand played a sh*t ton of offical matches and attended majors. Sure, it's not promised that one becomes a good coach after a long player career but Spiidi deserves this chance if this is what he wants. We'll have to wait and see if it works out or not.

+1 coaches also need to be a good mentours and know how to work w people. It doesn't require as much cs knowledge as t1 play but needs a real captain personality

Retired as a player after doing absolutely nothing ever. Now he is a performance coach. He'll be in his 30's without ever having an actual job, he'll be fucked like a lot of these T3/T2 dregs.

Great, he has "achieved more in CS". We'll see how content he is with his life choices when he's 34 and has never done anything in the real world. Just held onto this pipedream of being successful at CS. He's been playing the game religiously for years and has absolutely nothing to show for it.

Yeah and then he loses said job in what a couple of years, so he's not even hit 30 yet and has no real life experience and certainly no money built up. What then?

You do know that spiidi earned at least 201k on prizemoney alone, add his wage (which is probably not even that low due to laws in germany) and I say he is pretty well off

You know that not everybody can be a leader, managing a team for a long time. In almost every industry companies are looking for people with skills like that. I think it's a great thing to put in your CV that you managed to lead a team in different competitions. And about the money... Sprout is an organisation that can afford some decent salaries. Just watch the video from styko about the money.( Sure Sprout is not apeks) Coaches usually get a big cut too.

So if he stands for perfomance and how to increase level he would have played tier1 and not at the bottom of T2/3. He would be better in a coaching role behind the players.
