EM4 World Finals day 1 stats recap

After a day filled with delays and connection problems, we finally managed to bring you all the stats from the so called Group of Death, or officially, Group A in the EM4 World Championship Finals.

Fnatic, EG and mouz have shown the best form, made it out of the group, and that is reflected in the stats as they are the top 3 teams. Nevertheless, the other three teams put up a great fight, as the least amount of rounds a losing team took in a match was, a very respectable, 10 rounds. That ensured that most of the matches were very close, and often went down to the last few rounds.

Team stats
# Team W L RW RL RW% Rating
1. Sweden fnatic 4 1 84 66 56% 1.10
2. United States EG 4 1 86 64 57% 1.08
3. Germany mousesports 3 2 79 71 53% 1.03
4. Poland Frag eXecutors 2 3 69 81 46% 0.93
5. Denmark mTw 1 4 70 80 47% 0.91
6. France oXmoze 1 4 62 88 41% 0.85

As far as maps are concerned, de_inferno seems to be the most teams' favorite, as it was played in 7 out of the 15 matches. Fnatic was the only team to play 4 different maps, while EG experimented the least by playing only de_inferno and de_train.

Team map stats

Denmark mTw 1-0 0-3 - - 0-1
France oXmoze 0-2 1-1 0-1 - -

There are many players in this tournament who are considered to be world class and unstoppable when they have their day. So, let's see whose day it was today.

Leading the pack are two fnatic's players, Christopher "GeT_RiGhT" Alesund and Harley "dsn" Örwall. Alesund was also the Top Fragger and Top Rifler, and he posted maybe the best one-match performance of the day in their victory over mousesports with his score being 36-18. Örwall performed just as good overall and he was the 2nd best fragger of the day. Then we have EG's Danny "fRoD" Montaner, the top AWP of the day, who played especially great against fnatic and oXmoze, sharing the third place with Roman 'roman' Ausserdorfer from mouz, whose best performance came against the Americans. Also worth mentioning is the Top Pistol round player, Jordan 'n0thing' Gilbert, who was instrumental in EG's win over the Frag eXecutors, with an amazing 2nd half performance on de_train.

Why does fnatic have an higher rank than EG? EG wond more rounds than fnatic, lost less, and has a higher round wind percentage, so where does fnatic 1.10 and EG 1.08 ratings come from? And considering that EG won their match against fnatic, in a purely objective interpretation of the group stage EG was a better team than fnatic (shown by them being first in their group).

The rating comes from kills and deaths, which is suppose to mean that fnatic had (slightly) more dominant round wins. And 0.02 isn't that much of a difference, especially since there were only 5 matches, so a few rounds going in a different direction could have changed that.

If the rating was simply the round diff then why would we call it something else? It is based on the performance of the players on the team, and it is specifically made NOT to be just round difference.
