GamerLegion through to IEM Katowice groups
Two one-sided maps gave way to a competitive Overpass which went the way of the underdogs.

Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski got one over Virtus.pro with great calling on home soil to put one past one of the toughest teams to face at the IEM Katowice Play-in, Virtus.pro.
"We had a good game plan, first of all. I think our coaches did really good to prepare us for this game. Snax did amazing calling and acoR killing everyone with the AWP makes it so much easier," Sebastian "volt" Maloș said in a post-match interview on the B stream.
"I feel like we were playing very calm throughout the game, every single round we were just playing together and kind of countering VP’s style because we knew what they were going to do and we were ready for it."
Virtus.pro were uncharacteristically blundersome on Vertigo, where GamerLegion dominated on their attack in what ended up being a one-sided affair for the European combine. Missed boosts in the first few rounds and uncharacteristically poor aim throughout led to plenty of whiffs and marked an off map for VP. By the end of it Frederik "acoR" Gyldstrand was the man of the map with a 2.24 rating and 124 ADR in his side’s 13-3 victory.
Dzhami "Jame" Ali and his men shook it off between maps and entered Inferno dominantly, going on a tear on the attacking side as clutch wins and perfect calling by the Russian leader put the team up 11-1 at the half. A cosmetic comeback ensued on GamerLegion’s part, but to no avail as eventually Virtus.pro closed out their pick 13-5.
Overpass was the first competitive map in a series marked by teams dominating on their picks. Virtus.pro were denied early on as David "n0rb3r7" Danielyan was denied several times trying to create space around Monster, but once the code was cracked the map opened up and both teams were just two rounds apart after the first half.
Virtus.pro even had the chance of tying things up after winning the pistol round in the second half, but were denied by a forcebuy from GamerLegion, who went out to show that their strength lies on the attack as they lunged to five match points and eventually victory, 13-9, to advance to the next stage in Katowice.

GamerLegion can now breathe a sigh of relief after a well-executed series against a tough team, while Virtus.pro cannot put their heads down as they still have another chance at qualification in a fratricidal bracket against the winner of BetBoom vs. Cloud9.
