GamerLegion are starting to put together a strong run of form, having already beaten Virtus.pro in Katowice.
It was smooth sailing for GamerLegion in their opening IEM Katowice group stage match as they secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Monte, taking wins on Overpass (13-8) and Ancient (13-5).
GamerLegion were potent on their CT sides in particular, and Isak "isak" Fahlén stated in a broadcast interview after the game that the team had been working hard on their defensive halves in recent times.
It must be said that Monte did make things easy for GamerLegion's defense at times, peeking dry into AWPs, missing utility, and being far too easy to read. Volodymyr "Woro2k" Veletniuk identified the T side as the problem in a post-game interview, saying "they were reading us like a book every round," and he also felt his team made too many mistakes, perhaps an allusion to the missed utility.
Monte came into this match off the back of a seven-week break, whilst GamerLegion have already racked up plenty of officials in 2024, so perhaps this result was to be expected. GamerLegion have also been buoyed by some significant victories recently, namely over the likes of FaZe and Virtus.pro, and considering the fact they play either MOUZ or Cloud9 in their next match, they are a good bet to secure a playoff berth.

The series kicked off on Overpass and Monte's CT side suggested they might be able to steal away GamerLegion's pick, as Sergiy "DemQQ" Demchenko powered them to an 8-4 with some stylish multi-kills. GamerLegion completely shut out Monte's offense, however, with Frederik "acoR" Gyldstrand's AWP in particular proving too much for Monte to handle.
Ancient was virtually entirely one-way traffic, Monte never really got going on their T half and then lost their CT pistol to all but seal the result. Sebastian "volt" Maloș and Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski joined acoR in farming multi-kills, and GamerLegion comfortably sealed their upper bracket berth.
