seized: "It's really bad that we are playing a qualifier for the first CS2 Major on bad PCs"

The Russian veteran was critical of the playing conditions at the Romanian tournament.

"We don't have a life at all," seized said about their RMR preparation

Update 20:36 : PGL have reached out to HLTV and shared their computers have AMD Ryzen 9 5950X processors and Nvidia RTX 4080 16GB graphic cards, with 360Hz monitors supplied by Zowie.

9 Pandas finished 2023 with a title at PARI Please 2023 in Belgrade to put themselves on the world map and received an invitation to the RMR Closed Qualifier due to rising in the Valve ranking.

Denis "seized" Kostin and company traversed the online event with a 3-2 record to qualify for the LAN event in Bucharest, where they met FaZe in the first round. While they were no match for the European combine, they bounced back with a dominant win against SAW to finish day one with a 1-1 record.

After the win, seized talked to HLTV and gave a few quick comments on their games in Romania so far, his joy for LAN tournaments, and joined several players in expressing his dissatisfaction with the playing conditions.

If you do not see the SoundCloud embed above, you can listen to the full interview here.

Congrats on making it to 1-1 after the first day. How did everything feel for you today?

1-1 is okay for us. It's really important in these kinds of qualifiers to have at least a 1-1 record after the first day. We have one more shot at best-of-ones. We started the same in the closed qualifier, won the first game and lost to NAVI, which gave us a lot of information. I think the game against FaZe is going to give us some information too. Everything is optimal and okay.

Talking about the game against FaZe, you probably didn't expect to win because they are the number-one team in the world. Were you able to take anything positive from the loss?

We came into this game with the mentality that if we lost it is okay, but everyone on the team knew we could beat them because it's best-of-one. We had a pretty good first half, we got six rounds as T side, and sometimes it is hard to get even three or four. We won pistol and rolled some rounds, our plan was good, but on CT we fucked up a little bit and didn't win a single round.

The end result was okay, we went into the 0-1 pool and we just wanted to play the next game, nothing special. You can end this qualifier in two ways, you qualify for the Major or you don't, but you can do that in different ways. You can even go 2-3 and go to the Last Chance Qualifier. So we are taking it game by game, we have our goal, and we're following that.

About the final game against SAW. You guys were super loud and hyped, do you feel like a LAN team?

It feels nice to play on LAN because you have zero ping. Ping makes a massive difference in this game, and it's a completely different story if you have 40 or zero. But we have really bad PCs on this LAN, some players needed to change settings, resolution, and monitors, as I did, and I think I'm not alone. For me, it's really bad that we are playing a qualifier for the first CS2 Major on bad PCs.

I talked to you in Belgrade a few months ago, and you said you want to make the first CS2 Major. What would achieving that goal mean to you?

It means everything to me right now. We don't have a life at all, we are just playing the game and sleeping, sometimes not even getting enough sleep. We did two bootcamps already this year for the Closed Qualifier and now for RMR, so I'm hoping our hard work will pay off in the end.

shows how you don't understand how processors works, in intel the generation is important not if it's i5 or i7 or i9, for gaming i5 14th generation is the best.

So why you have more fps when you are playing with an i7 than an i5? and all players complained at the time that they were not playing close to 300 fps

Back in 2017 i9 didn't exist and i5 was best for gaming. Man is speaking truth but with outdated truth. Ok i9 came 2017. But the PC specs must have surely been planned on safe (proven to work very will) hardware. So the PGL Krakow specs was probably planned early 2017 or something.

Yes and no, i7's had substantially higher single core perf especially in 2017 when Intels segmentation fetish was still in high gear (but not as bad as pre kaby lake off course). Would it matter realistically in 2017? No probably not. Is it still sub par? Absolutely even for 2017. They should be rocking low latency DDR4 and the highest spec i7 you could get at the time IMO. For the biggest tournament of the year. Today you can easily get away with a 7600X for CS so there's no excuse with shitty PC's in 2024.

In gaming is 100% relative. The Source engine is CPU dependent, so your GPU matters way less than CPU. There was always a difference in performance between i5 and i7, whereas in other titles it wasn't noticeable.

Iirc they used 8th gen Intel CPUs? The mistake was to use i5-8400 (6c 6t, 2.8 Ghz) instead of i5-8600k (6c 6c, 3.6 Ghz) or i7-8700k (6c, 12t, 3.7 Ghz). 6 cores 6 threads was more than enough for CS:GO at that time, but higher frequency was required for higher FPS.

that's why i'm wondering aswell, that cpu + a decent gpu like 4060 is more than enough for cs2 to run constantly at 300fps, maybe dropping in smokes but that's more of a cs2 optimisation fault not the pc, you get -40% of fps with i5 14700k + rtx 4090 so the smokes are fked.
2024-02-14 19:45

No it's not enough. The game will run 300 fps at most times but your 0.1% and 1% lows will not be smooth and if you're playing with a 240hz/360hz which they are makes a big difference. CS2 has awful frametimes.

No it's not ok. CS2 needs at least 7800x3d and 4070 ti+ gpu if you want the game to run smoothly at all times at most graphical settings.

nah 5800x not good enough in CS2, they have 360 hz monitors. 5800X3D would be fine probably, but major qualis you probably want the best of the best..

They have standard (for pros) PCs at home, bootcamps. They are used to their settings. ESL and Blast don't fail to provide them PCs that run without problems. PGL is providing them subpar (again, by pros standards) PCs. Pros are forced to change video settings that they are used to. You don't see a problem here?

They are pros. Should be able to adapt. Idk how you are professional in something, and are not able to mitigate the risk of sub-perfect conditions by just playing with other than ultra-high settings. Its actually really good wakeup for some pros to start being more professional and think about different scenarios and how to mitigate the chance to being put out of comfort zone during tournaments.

5950X for CS2 is the issue more than anything. For 99% of use cases it's a good CPU, the problem is CS2 is that 1% edge case where you actually want the newest, top-end CPUs.

So the PC's aren't actually "bad" at all. In fact, they're quite high end. CS2 is just optimized like absolute shit. The idea that a gaming PC better than what 99% of the world has access to is "bad" for a fucking esports title is laughable. Any argument about whether it should be a 5800x3d instead, or whether it should be AM5 with a 7800x3d is moot and pointless. These PC's are still very high end and should run the game just fine. It's not the tournaments fault that the game dev doesn't bother to optimize the game. If this was a Valorant tournament you could give the players 5 year old hardware and the game would still run butter fucking smooth.

Do we know what the specs are for the computers they are using? You'd think the organizer would have that available...

normally i would take this golden opportunity to call seized a bot, but PGL cannot be trusted, and cs2 js badly optimized. my personal headcanon is that pgl bought cheap used mining rig parts to build their pcs because they penny pinch fucking everything

Ryzen 9 5950X indeed isnt the best cpu for gaming, would have had better fps with 5800x3d or obviously on a newest platform from amd/intel

how is a ryzen 9 5959x and 4080 a bad pc? yes 7800x3d probably better for cs but the main issue is the game. a 2500€ pc should run cs at 360fps with no loss easily.

Ryzen 9 5950X is not as good as some cheaper CPUs like 7800x3D and 5800x3D in CS2
