Monte secure final BLAST Spring Showdown spot

Woro2k's team earned a spot in the Showdown just ahead of their RMR appearance.

Woro2k helped take things over the line in the grand final

Monte have qualified for BLAST Premier Spring Showdown following a 2-1 victory over Aurora in RES Eastern European Masters Spring, beating Viktor "Lack1" Boldyrev's side on Mirage (13-10) and Ancient (13-9) on either side of a loss on Nuke (6-13).

The Ukrainian-majority roster are the 16th and final team to secure a spot in the online tournament, which will run from March 6-10 and utilize a single-elimination, best-of-three bracket to determine the final two teams to qualify for BLAST Premier Spring Final.

Monte were the favorites coming into the eight-team Eastern Europe qualifier and lived up to that reputation, surviving a close shave against The Chosen Few in their opening game before beating Aurora to make the playoffs.

A phenomenal performance from Viktor "sdy" Orudzhev (1.47 rating, 0.90 KPR, 1.37 impact, and 100.6 ADR) then powered Monte past SINNERS in the semi-finals, with Volodymyr "Woro2k" Veletniuk stepping up in his team's qualifying match against Aurora to secure advancement to the Showdown.

The successful qualifier bid comes just ahead of Monte's opening game of PGL Major Copenhagen Europe RMR B, where they will face ECSTATIC in their opening match.

The Ukrainian organization revealed on Saturday that sdy would miss at least the first day of the RMR due to illness and that they would use Monte Gen member Jack "Gizmy" von Spreckelsen as a stand-in until sdy was ready to return to action. The 26-year-old's absence comes as a huge blow given his stellar level in recent months and his secondary voice on the team, illustrated further by his impact in this qualifier.

who even cares about this, it's just likely going to be Spirit and one other team that no one cares about.

-house, if monte win ECSTATIC they will with 80% play versus Cloud9 without sniper, if they will lose to ECSTATIC they will with 80% play with Nexus. Monte have luck to have a good ranking, they will always have low ranking teams to play.

I'm not saying it proves something, I'm saying that it's making Monte's place in tier1 events more solid instead of a fluke as ITB was, or rather without a doubt that they deserve it whereas the likes of Apeks and GamerLegion are struggling to maintain relevance

eh itb immediately fell off, monte stayed solid them getting to the showdown against teams ranked 30 places lower than them is expected, they are one of the favourites to win showdown after all however in the sense of not losing to top40 teams you are right a real tier 1 team cannot afford to lose game like these also dont sleep on gl while they are not going to major finals or smth like that they are doing so much better than one would expect considering they lost their 2 most important players after the major (also applies to monte and boros to a lesser extent because he turned out to be... not good)

Only sickness i'd see sdy having is covid that is keeping him from playing on LAN while competing online. That or some kind of pox.

Why is this year's blast showdown not split unlike previous years?
