SAW eliminate Cloud9 from Showdown

Cloud9 will not appear at the BLAST Spring Final.

arrazdoce topped the server with a 1.31 rating

SAW have continued their good form and eliminated Cloud9 from the BLAST Premier Spring Showdown in a two-map affair (Nuke 16-13, Overpass 13-8). The Portuguese side is now on a seven-match win streak that dates all the way back to their 0-2 pool match at the RMR and has now secured their second upset of the tournament after eliminating Liquid in the opening round.

Ricardo "roman" Oliveira spoke to James "BanKs" Banks after the match and admitted the veto surprised him and his team. "They had the game in their hands as well, we were surprised they picked Overpass because we expected Anubis. It's a bit strange, we lost it 1-13 last time we played. I don't get it, but I'm happy about it."

SAW now move to the qualification match, where they will face off against the winner of OG vs. HEROIC for a spot at London's BLAST Spring Final. "We came to this tournament to prepare for the Major, so any result is a win for us, but we're aiming for a win," roman said about their upcoming clash.

For Cloud9, this is another lackluster performance by their AWPer-less roster. While they showed improved form at the RMR, where Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov took over as primary sniper, Ilya "Perfecto" Zalutskiy and Abay "HObbit" Khassenov joined their captain in the role at the Showdown. The Russian squad now has nine days to prepare for the Major, where they will start in the Opening Stage.

The series started on Nuke, where Cloud9 recovered from losing the pistol round and ended the half at 6-6. Sergey "Ax1Le" Rykhtorov came alive in the second half and won two crucial clutches to help his team go 12-9 up, but they couldn't close it out in regulation and dropped the map 13-16. SAW showed incredible resilience to fight back from behind and made the most of João "story" Vieira having the better of HObbit in the head-to-head AWP duel, as the Portuguese sniper finished the map with 25 kills.

SAW made it three out of three pistols in the series at the start of Overpass, which gave them the momentum to secure a comfortable 8-4 CT half. With the CT-sided nature of the map, the match was far from done, and Cloud9 were able to tie up the scores at 8-8 and put themselves in the driver's seat. That was the exact opposite of what happened, though, as SAW won five gun rounds in a row by outmaneuvering the Cloud9 CT side on several occasions, and walked into an empty A bombsite in the final round of the match to close out a 13-8 victory.

Time to ruin celebrations, arrozdoce might actually end up getting poached by a bigger org in an international team if he performs like this in Copenhagen. Just the unfortunate life of any tier 2 team that makes any waves and happens to have a player that stands out in particular :/

They're each getting a minimum of 30K for the stickers, depending on how much SAW shares the profit with them. The Gen.G guys were receiving about 50K. Not life changing money, but for a tier 2 player, thats good money.

Those days are long gone; tier 2 teams are getting endorsement deals and making money off stickers these days. Yes, Liquid and Astralis might have bigger funding, but funding doesn't always mean winning more. SAW is basically a tier 1 team, and they will land a couple of good endorsement deals, especially with how well they're doing in BLAST and the Majors so far

yeah but it's a matter of if they value money + stability, a chance of potentially going further, or even both simultaneously. It entirely depends on who's offering.

They are already at a net neutral of what I heard from a source who knows the whole SAW team and ownership personally, don't think money will be a problem here, depends, I'm not ruling out that a FaZe or something can give more money, but I doubt they'd increase his salary so much for the first time going T1, and also he is like 21

It's not moreso that it'll be money that'll be a driving factor but more on the opportunity. What if say, ENCE, G2, or even Vitality come knocking after the major if they decide to enter rostermania? If SAW performs well in Copenhagen and arrozdoce still remains as their standout player, he's highly likely going to be one of the first to get contacted, especially if he's a player that happens to play and fill in the roles the team's struggling/lacking in. The dilemma here is would be leave behind a team that he spent a long time with and has finally started making breakthroughs, or would he chose what could be a once in a lifetime opportunity. It's like what happened with ALEX who was conflicted on if he should stay with the project he spent over 5 years with in Movistar Riders or take the offer from NiP which was a once in a lifetime opportunity for him since players like him almost never get considered for orgs with far larger name recognition. But in the end, chose the latter.

it was known for a long time now that they wouldnt make changes before the major and all that "we will stick to no awper" was more likely pr than anything if g2 horribly fails in cph they will definitely get m0nesy otherwise maybe someone from lower rated teams (artfr0st who got fucked by going to pari or zorte who doesnt seem really happy with bb atm) its kinda shocking but i have to say there are no ru-speaking awpers other than sh1ro and m0nesy (jame also?) that are good enough to do well in tier 1 there always used to be someone in tier2 like degster el1an or xsepower before who did great in tier 2 and now theres no one really so its understandable c9 are trying to make this work because paying for artfr0st or zorte who are both owned by betting companies and cost a lot doesnt seem that great compared to their potential
