mithR extends contract with Apeks until 2027

The Danish-Norwegian coach revealed the news on a podcast with Dust2.dk.

mithR has inked a new deal with Apeks until 2027

Torbjørn "mithR" Nyborg has signed a three-year deal with Apeks and will be under contract with the organization until 2027, the 34-year-old coach revealed on an episode of Dust2.dk's podcast, Best of 3.

mithR has worked for Apeks since December 2021, spending nearly two years developing Norwegian talent for the organization's academy team, Apeks Rebels, before getting the call up to coach the main roster following Jakub "kuben" Gurczyński's departure for ENCE in September.

mithR was unable to stand behind the team at his first event with them, ESL Pro League Season 18, due to roster restrictions, but was still in attendance as he worked to institute a new philosophy and improve results after a dismal period following the team's Paris Major success and the departure of Justinas "jL" Lekavicius.

His offline debut as Apeks' coach at IEM Sydney went wayward following losses to Natus Vincere and GamerLegion in the group stage, but the Damjan "kyxsan" Stoilkovski-led team then ended the year on a high note with runners-up finishes at Elisa Masters Espoo and ESL Challenger Atlanta.

The loss of the promising Macedonian IGL in the off-season then came as a severe blow for the team, who had to recall Martin "STYKO" Styk from the bench to retain a three-man core from the BLAST.tv Paris Major so they could receive an invite to the RMR closed qualifier.

The lineup had a rough start to 2024 when they were annihilated by Spirit 13-0 in the Play-in stage of IEM Katowice, but recovered spectacularly from the blowout with wins over FURIA and BIG to make the top-16 stage before back-to-back losses to Complexity and Natus Vincere ended their run.

Most importantly, though, Apeks recently locked in a spot at PGL Major Copenhagen after making it through Europe RMR B with a 3-1 record and has remained a strong competitor despite needing to rebuild with Ådne "sense" Fredriksen taking over leadership duties, a transition no doubt helped by mithR's structural changes and help behind-the-scenes.

"We are extremely happy with each other - both Apeks and I - and see that there is a foundation for a long-term collaboration," mithR said regarding the extension in the podcast with Dust2.dk. The Danish coach will next be in action at the Major, where Apeks are set to face paiN in their opening match.

The years are getting too big and scary sounding now. In 2010's 3 years away sounded reasonable. It's 2016 and in 3 years it will be 2019. Okay yeah fine. 2027 sounds like it should be 20 years away and we will be settled on mars.

why does everyone sign long ass contracts? If you do really well just means you are stuck on your current salary. If you suck you get benched and get a % drop in salary. Unless you are getting the like 60k/m or whatever Xyp9x was getting whats the point of locking yourself up for so long? Especially since Apeks is not one of the big orgs who are going to get like all the Saudi subsidies that may come in soon. If they dont make majors you are likely getting booted.
