PGL and Perfect World announce partnership

The Romania and China-based tournament organizers will cooperate on hosting Counter-Strike 2 events for the next three years.

PGL and Perfect World have formally announced a partnership that will see the two tournament organizers cooperate on hosting Counter-Strike 2 (and DOTA 2) events in 2024-2026.

As a result, PGL will produce all Perfect World events in English and hold rights to their distribution outside of China and vice versa — Perfect World will produce and distribute PGL's events in China and Chinese broadcasts for PGL's other events.

To begin with, the partnership will be in effect for both of this year's Counter-Strike 2 Majors, which are due to be organized by PGL in Copenhagen from March 17-31 and by Perfect World in Shanghai on December 1-15.

The partnership isn't all new, as the Romania and China-based organizers have already cooperated in a similar capacity on Counter-Strike and DOTA events since 2017.

However, its continuation could have significant implications on the Counter-Strike landscape from 2025, when Valve's new rules come into effect and put a stop to BLAST's and ESL's franchised structures. This should create more opportunities for other tournament organizers to host large-scale Counter-Strike events featuring top teams.

PGL previously announced it would host "a minimum of eight $1 million tournaments" in DOTA 2 from 2024-2026, but they have yet to reveal their Counter-Strike plans for the upcoming years.

nearly everyone wants borderless stickers now we get them again and ppl are complaining. I get that the same again and again are not the best choice but this major are so many new teams and players that if you buy challenger/contender capsules you should have everytime a new one :) (at least at the start) i mean the rio major sticket looked absolutly shit. did you buy them? what sticker design you want from valve coming forward?

Everything is still free because no one would buy the product overall, not because oil money bought the scene. The day CS goes pay to watch it goes bankrupt instantly.

I would pay 5$ to watch all CS events ad free and better produced. The only reason CS is still alive competitively are gambling sites and Saudi.

You'd probably be in the minority regarding paying to watch. I don't think 5$ will be enough either when it's said and done, these companies aren't here to make the best viewing experience they're here to try to make money or get market cap to eventually make money.

There is no money to be made in E-Sports, it's been a money drain for years if not decades. Inflated player salaries, Orgs struggling financially left and right, Orgs fucking over own players to keep sticker money etc. TO's are there for exposure, not to make bank.

they have been a money dump because the investments were far over what the gradual climb could take. and it got worse with covid. if the growth was linear we wouldnt have any problems but the ivnestments got exponential while viewers kept being linear

“ The only reason CS is still alive competitively are gambling sites and Saudi.” Gambling sites? Yes. Saudis? Well no. Sure their investment might’ve helped the game to some extent but saying their money saved the game is absolutely bs.

They bought half of E-Sports, in a time where absolutely everyone was struggling financially, they even bought percentages of Blast lmao. They helped massively, like it or not.

They didn’t help them then, they just abused their financial condition. Also they dont give a sh!t about esports at all. The only thing they are looking for is control and power, which they will get no matter what. So stop acting like they are our saviors 🤦🏻‍♂️ 🙃 I would still enjoy watching fuckin voyvoda play against fiend in the most matchfixing fashion possible. I dont need all those fireworks to get me entertained

I don't really care if you like them or not, fact is, they are the reason we still get top tier events for free. So stop complaining, or just stop watching.

That’s absolutely not true There are dozens of investors out there who are willing to do anything for more profit. Eventually there would’ve been another organization/group to invest in CS.

looks like you still don't get it, there is no profit to be made, and that's why other investors are not interested, it's not about profit for saudis, it's for exposure.

I wouldn't necessarily say other investors wouldn't be interested, especially when it comes to ESL, which is the biggest company in competitive Esports across multiple games, but I do agree that Saudis don't look to profit off of this, it's about image and exposure for them.

I didn’t say that. Its just exhausting constantly seeing Chinese and saudis authorities buying the ownership of things left and right. Btw idc nor follow these things in general but whenever i do it’s about them :)

who cares who they are? would you be more happy with an american investor? like it's not gonna make a difference, investors are investors, morals and ethics don't exist anymore, no point of trying to look for it in esports.

Its already pretty popular in China. Pretty sure the most RMR signups were in China (for like a single event there were like 6000 teams? I dont think any of the EU RMR open qualis had that). Its just the orgs/players/teams have been in a huge slump since the peaks of Tyloo.

Wholly Saudi government owned is far different to Chinese companies and the 'Golden Share' the state holds in them. For example Xi Jinping is not the chairman of perfect world (or the company that owns perfect world which to my knowledge there is no bigger company just a holding company of the current CEO).

Would you accept a possibility that he was not aware, despite his position? or Are you going to say with 100% certainty that he was aware and took the job knowing what is about to happen? My only stance is that, he might've been not aware and i agree with you on that, him shitting on saudis but accepting Taylor Swift '89 money makes him a hypocrite. Yes, that's a lie i have more contacts. 🗿🍷
