PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Opening StageBrazil on top as Imperial and paiN emerge victorious in Copenhagen
The two Brazilian sides bested their European counterparts to book a spot in the 1-0 pool.
Imperial took down ENCE whilst paiN outclassed Apeks to ensure Brazil enjoyed a strong start to PGL Major Copenhagen Opening Stage.
paiN benefitted from a strong team-wide performance in their opener against Apeks, and they were ultimately good value for their victory.
Apeks started brightly and ran out to a 4-0 lead on their defense on Vertigo, but paiN's slow and methodical approach eventually bore fruit and forced Apeks into blunders, which allowed the Brazilians to win the half.
A lost pistol in the second half put Apeks in a tough situation, and although they nabbed a three-round streak off the back of the first gun round, paiN wrested back control and secured a comfortable 13-8 victory.
Over on the B stream ENCE put up a powerful 8-4 T side on Anubis off the back of some strong calling by Lukas "gla1ve" Rossander, consistently finding the right mid-round manoeuvres to expose Imperial's defense.
Imperial's approach on T side was far simpler, but the brute-force method was effective, particularly when focused on the B bombsite. This drove the Brazilians all the way to match point, but for the last two rounds they opted to head towards A instead, where ENCE stood firm and forced overtime.
Overtime was a back-and-forth affair, with both teams massively improving their defensive efforts such that they essentially nullified each other. Imperial eventually found the answers in the third set of overtime rounds, coming back from a morale-crushing ace by Kacper "Kylar" Walukiewicz, and secured a 22-19 victory.
