PGL CS2 Major Copenhagen 2024 Opening StageFURIA on the brink of elimination as Day 1 reaches end
The Brazilian giants are one loss away from being knocked out of the Major.
FURIA end the first day of PGL Major Copenhagen staring elimination in the face after a 13-9 loss against Lynn Vision in a scrappy Nuke game. The Brazilian team, which had the eighth-highest seed heading into the Opening Stage, will need to find a way to turn things around quickly, or they risk being sent home from the Major without even reaching the last-16 stage.
Playing their first-ever Major, Lynn Vision, picked up an impressive four-round lead on the T-side, with Sike "z4kr" Zhang and Lizhi "Starry" Ye leading the charge. The Chinese team maintained their momentum and added three more rounds to their tally after the side switch.
With no margin for error, FURIA dug deep and began to chip away at the deficit. It looked like a comeback was on the cards, but all their gains were undone in the 19th round as they squandered a 5v2 situation against pistols after getting involved in an unnecessary brawl in lobby.
Lynn Vision's players could hardly believe what had just happened. Just a few rounds later, Asia's No.2 seed would secure the victory after stealing yet another round, one in which they had just two weapons to work with.

Meanwhile, SAW marched into the 2-0 pool after a hard-fought victory over GamerLegion. The Portuguese team was put in a difficult position in the veto, forced to choose between Inferno and Vertigo, two of their worst maps. Still, they kept their composure throughout the game and equalized the score at 6-6 after bouncing back from a 3-6 deficit.
The early stages of the second half were keenly contested as neither team managed to stamp their authority on proceedings, but then SAW tightened up their defensea, locking down the map with a trio of frags by João "story" Vieira, who posted a commanding 1.86 CT rating.
