Skyesports Masters to be held online

Teams such as ENCE, Liquid, and NIP will still play the $350,000 event despite its shift online.

The organizers of Skyesports Masters 2024 have announced that the $350,000 tournament will take place online after it was originally due to be held on LAN at an undisclosed location in India.

The organizers have cited upcoming general elections in India as the reason behind the shift.

"After careful consideration and exploring all possible alternatives, we have reached the extremely tough decision to cancel the LAN component of the Skyesports Masters 2024 Main Event," a statement from the organizers reads.

"With the Indian General Elections set to begin in April, it has proved extremely challenging to obtain the necessary approvals for hosting a large-scale on-ground event."

The event will otherwise continue to run as planned, taking place on April 8-14. ENCE, BIG, Liquid, OG, Aurora and Ninjas in Pyjamas have been invited to compete at the event along with teams qualified through Europe and India. The organizers have pledged to facilitate the Indian team's travel and boot camp in Serbia for the event.

This isn't the first time Skyesports has made significant changes to its events. Last November, the South Asian tournament organizer indefinitely postponed the Skyesports Championship 5.0 over "foreign political conditions and a little bit of bad luck" and previously moved the Skyesports Souvenir tournament online after it was originally announced as a LAN in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Is there a pattern with this? Are skyesports somehow linked to some political party? Or is it always like this in india that the whole country shuts down when there are elections going?

How do elections affect a tournament? Is it just they are scared of less people attending because of it?

#63 i guess, my European brain can't comprehend why do elections matter when it comes to hosting an event. Who's giving out these approvals?

In India we can't help up huge gathering during election times. Even IPL(Biggest Cricket League in the world) gets postponed or moved to different country due to election. So this move to online doesn't surprise me.

The tournament is still happening without a change in prize pool and format. How is this considered a fraud? Haven't we seen planned football matches get cancelled due rain for a couple of hours? If you can't support them, alteast don't demean them

You youself being an Indian, how can you even say this? They just hosted Grandslam this month where I watched Aurora lift the trophy. I watched the whole tournament and loved it. On researching about Skyesports after watching Aurora win, I got to know that they are the only Organizers in India to do Counter Strike events. Are you even Indian? Do you even play Counter Strike? You just sound lilke some paid actor hating on a good cause

I don't know what you are mad about. The tournament is still happening, and my favorite team (ENCE) is participating. I don't know how this is a Joke. You can't blame the TO for caring about the wellbeing of the players in their tournament. If you actually care about the LAN, why not go talk to the Indian Government? rather than shit talking about a $350000 USD tournament which is actually happening.

The tournament is still happening on the same dates with the same prize pool and format. They just made it online for the safety of the players. Who knows what can happen during elections? This seems so logical to me. Appreciate them for doing something for the teams of OUR REGION

Very poorly organized event. The elections were not announced today or a day before, they announced the dates for election on the 16th of March. So they should've prepared the dates of the tournament accordingly. They should have checked 2019's elections and could've held the tournament in March. Since being from India and TO they could check for all the possible obstacle that may stop the tournament from happening. So dissapointed as i was very hyped for this one. Definitely not gonna watch this online. No point now.

Issue is scheduling conflicts. March 1st-4th Americas RMR March 6th - 10th BLAST SHOWDOWN (liquid/big/og/nip are required to play in it) March 14-16th Skyesports Grand slam. March 17th - 31th MAJOR It is a bit naive to try and schedule with the elections taking place and turns what was an interesting event into an expensive cash cup.

For someone that lives in India or familiar with the elections. Are the dates set like the time of year? As an outsider I’d imagine elections are a known time of yr. Speculation with no knowledge and venting for fun…seemed like the perfect time to set a tournament for sponsor money and then pivot out

Masters was announced 4 months before the election dates were announced. I am on Skyesports' side for this one. As long as the tournament is happening, I support you guys! Don't let me down. @guhleezy, yes that makes sense, but at the same time, safety concerns are a thing to be taken seriously. Online or offline, I just wanna see these teams play. Die hard fan of NIP

CS calendar is really jam packed. This was probably the one time you could get all these teams together. Sucks that it cant go ahead on lan. Although hopefully this allows gods reign to get a bootcamp in eu going.

Tournament was already done-for when i could observe their were no advertisements and no hype created in the Indian or international esports market. Their social media is unresponsive. I was regularly checking to see if they have announced the place to host the event in Mumbai, so i could book my tickets accordingly, but alas. Elections were announced to be held in April and May long before and i was already skeptical as to how the event will go through. Now, an easy $350k for an online Pug, now to be held in EU. Great.
