Vitality demolish Cloud9 to secure semi-final berth

The Paris Major champions breezed past the Russian squad to book a top-four spot.

Vitality are the first Copenhagen Major semi-finalists

Vitality became the first semi-finalists of PGL Major Copenhagen after they defeated Cloud9 in a two-map series (Inferno 13-8, Anubis 13-2). The Russian squad was in the series until they lost a crucial anti-eco round at 8-9 down on Inferno, with Kirill "Boombl4" Mikhailov and company winning just two rounds after that pivotal moment.

Shahar "flameZ" Shushan, who is playing his first Major playoffs, topped the board for Vitality as he dominated Cloud9 with a 1.59 average rating across the series and proved he won't let the occasion get to him.

"We knew the group stage was off for us, we lacked energy, we had two sick players, but now we feel the energy. It felt really weird in the morning, I was really nervous and knew today was going to be a different day," the Israeli rifler said about today's match.

"But we know this arena, we've been here for Fall Final, and today we were just the better team and individuals. It feels like a Major playoffs, it's way different to any tournament I have ever been in."

Vitality are now on a collision course with the winner of Spirit vs. FaZe, with the game set to be played on Saturday at 17:00 .

Cloud9 made an interesting choice in the veto as they opted to pick Anubis, one of Vitality's best maps, which prompted the analyst desk to question their decision, with Vitality going for Inferno.

Vitality's pick began with their 4vs5 retake of the B site that gave them a 3-0 lead early on, but Cloud9 wasted no time striking back. Non-stop B pressure got them a six-round streak before Vitality stabilized with the help of Lotan "Spinx" Giladi's multi-kills to go into the second half at 6-6.

The Dan "apEX" Madesclaire-led squad retook the lead in the second half before Cloud9 once again reeled them back in and reduced the deficit to just one round. It was at this moment that the turning point of the series happened, as Vitality won a round with Glocks to get themselves up to double digits and completely flip the momentum, with the game going their way in a 13-8 victory.

Cloud9's map pick backfired as they could only find two rounds on the defensive half, courtesy of hero plays by Boombl4 and Denis "electroNic" Sharipov. A second-half pistol then ensured Vitality's comfortable victory, as the European combine blew Cloud9 out of the water and provided a statement performance ahead of their semi-final.

Picking Anubis into Vitality instead of Mirage is definitely not nt, but I guess C9 would lose at the end anyway, since even if C9 won Mirage, Anubis would be 3rd and they would get bullied by Vitality no matter what . But losing 2-0 and winning 10 rounds across 2 maps is still not nt.

told y'all the day c9 signed perfecto and electronic and everyone went ape-shit that c9 will never win any significant tournament with this line-up. the best line-up c9 ever had was Rush, autimatic, tarik, skadoodle, and stewie2k. This core was better than axile, electronic, perfecto

actually embarrassing performance you now have 2 options Nr1. disband/sell roster back to Gambit Nr2. -groove asap, -hobbit +innersh1ne/zeus +m0nesy if they do nothing and continue this embarrassment, i hope they fail miserably.

Yes. He is a smart player but can only put numbers on overpass. Fl1t instead of perfecto would make this team top 1 contender.

since ax1le has been performing recently its pretty obvious that c9 should and will swap m0nesy for for hobbit if m0nesy and g2 agree to that

I would never add simple in place of perfecto, only another role player. And fl1t has some roles overlap with perfecto like con in overpass. You are only coming up with unnecessary insult attempts 🤷 Doesnt seem like you actually have any opinions of your own. You like perfecto coz analysts have hyped him up in past.

why would it be up to g2 lol if monesy doesnt extend his contract, he can do whatever the fuck he wants might as well sell him before he leaves without any buyout

It’s a commercial contract, not indentured servitude. He is free to leave at any point, but monetary penalties will apply.

And dont you think G2 could just ask for an immeasurable amout of money?
2024-03-28 20:05

No, because such penalties are fixed by contract. If he wants to leave he knows what the fee is - and of course this fee would be paid by any org that wants to buy him.

I’m a lawyer. I know how commercial contracts work. Of course, I have not seen his particular contract, but I would assume that an organisation of G2’s calibre would not only have an industry standard contract - not least because it would be in their interest - but that m0nesy’s agent would also insist on having something that is not written on the back of toilet paper.

Yes, I guess it's possible. I'd never heard of the existence in esports of what would be the equivalent of a release clause in football. If Monesy has such a thing in his contract, however, I imagine it would be high.
2024-03-28 20:24

It’s industry standard. Why do you think top players wait till the tail end of their contract to start negotiating moves, and why teams lock players in for many years at a time.
2024-03-28 20:30

You are talking about buy-out clause, I honestly don’t think CS players have those, most of the big transfers in CS were always negotiated legally binding arrangements. Transfer price is in 99% agreement between orgs with many factors taken into consideration like months/years left on contract, current form/trend, willingness of player to stay/leave roster etc. Just like Spirit did with sh1ro and C9 who they bought for 1.75 million. There is no way sh1ro had buy-out clause higher than that which means he had no buy-out clause, same with stabbi for 2 million. The only instance this happened was when dev1ce wanted to leave Astralis for Nip, it was sudden move because his gf wanted to relocate to Sweden asap. Astralis didn’t want to sell at any cost and Nip were left with only option of buying his contract out with huge financial help from dev1ce himself, but Astralis are notoriously known for being shady org with dirty practics and I really doubt that other organizations lock their players out behind ridiculous buy-outs, which in case of benching in the future would basically mean prison.

Zywoo needs to go from 1.27 to 1.5. He looked good, but can still be better, and the team needs him. Faze(Danish buff)/Spirit(Donk y) will be a tough game regardless. All team needs to step up, cause they won't roll over like C9.

That glock round on Inferno completely destroyed C9 mentally... after losing that one they got destroyed on Anubis. I have to say that it was a big mistake for them to have Anubis as their 2nd map since Vitality aren't terrible on it, could have picked Overpass and won it most likely and then send the game to a decider on Anubis... who knows what could have happened then. Big mistake from groove and Boombl4.
