Eternal Fire terminates contracts of academy duo following FACEIT bans

Abuse of a bug that allows users to enable cheat-protected console commands during a FACEIT match resulted in two-year bans from the platform.

Eternal Fire has severed ties with cyber and Depact

Eternal Fire has terminated the contracts of Eternal Fire Academy members Ahmet "⁠cyber⁠" Akpınar and Bilgihan "⁠Depact⁠" Ayaz after the pair received two-year FACEIT bans on Monday.

cyber and Depact, aged 23 and 21 respectively, exploited a recently-publicized bug in Counter-Strike 2 that allows cheat-protected commands to be enabled through the console on public servers. These commands allow players to manipulate what is visible to them during games, including drawing wireframes and turning textures transparent to see opponents through walls.

After the bug gained notoriety on Sunday, FACEIT announced via their Community Support account on X that they were aware of the bug, exploring whether it could be patched on their side, and declared that "appropriate actions will be taken against those exploiting it."

FACEIT_Darwin, a community manager on the platform, later announced their anti-cheat team had identified users who played on FACEIT with the exploit and that bans were already being handed out. FACEIT states in their Banning Policy that "[in-game bug abuse of] most severe offenses (e.g. removing textures, removing smoke grenades) are considered cheating and will result in a two-year ban from the platform."

cyber and Depact were among those handed two-year bans on Monday, with Eternal Fire later confirming that the pair were handed bans for exploiting the bug during a FACEIT match.

"Depact and cyber, players of our academy project, displayed unprofessional behavior by using an in-game console code that allows cheating in CS2 during a FACEIT match played yesterday," the organization stated in a post on X.

"We would like to inform the public that we have cut ties and terminated our contracts with the players, who we are sure are staying away from any situation that will affect the game negatively, such as cheating."

I have never used cheats, nor this exploit, and I do not intend to do so. However, I can totally understand people who have used it yesterday, as they didn’t know whether someone against them isn’t cheating, whether they won’t be losing their elo because of an exploit, which might have led them to believe that they’re playing in an unfair circumstances and thus they used it too.

Bug exploit is cheating. Otherwise you could push the logic as far as "my .exe isn't really cheating it's just that the game is designed to open the door for these kind of exploit". Playing the game in an unintended way by throwing some shady commands in a console knowing it will break the game and allow you to see through walls is very similar to launching a .exe to see through walls. Only difference is that one is downloading a .exe the other is copy-pasting commands. Still, it's hacking and they knew what they were doing.

You have to remember, their entire career is playing Counter Strike, so to be a supposed pro and exploit a cheat in a FACEIT game, thats inexcusable. Play around with the bug offline with your buddies, or even in DM. Don't play a pug and use it and expect nothing to happen... even if you are curious.
