Astralis and MOUZ sail into Chengdu semis

The re-aligned Danish squad end the group stage 5-0 in maps, 9-1 in pistol rounds, and with a 71.4% round win rate.

device and stavn are back in a Big Event's playoffs

MOUZ and Astralis have confirmed top-four finishes at IEM Chengdu after winning their respective groups in China. Liquid and Virtus.pro, after defeat here, will start their playoff runs from the quarter-finals.

It will be Astralis' first Big Event playoffs since IEM Cologne 2023, and their honeymoon is well underway after switching to Nicolai "device" Reedtz as in-game leader and bringing in Alexander "br0" Bro to release Martin "stavn" Lund and Jakob "jabbi" Nygaard back to their preferred rotation CT positions.

The Danes, after adding a 2-0 smashing of Virtus.pro, limited their opponents to seven rounds or fewer on all five of their map wins and the benefits of the roster change were obvious with a defined style and stavn on an event-high 1.61 rating.

Overpass, a stalwart home map for Virtus.pro, saw huge impact from Victor "Staehr" Staehr around the Toilets as the imperious Dzhami "Jame" Ali offence was stalled time and time again for a 9-3 CT half in favor of Astralis.

After closing that out, Vertigo began in the same fashion as Astralis' last four maps as they secured their ninth pistol round in nine attempts before rolling into a 10-2 lead and closing the series out 2-0.

Vertigo has been a particular weak point for VP, who have now lost on the 51st Floor four times in a row. "We are having some problems on Vertigo," David "n0rb3r7" Danielyan told HLTV before the match. "I think we will fix it as soon as we have some time in-between tournaments."

MOUZ, meanwhile, had to warm into their series against Liquid and required a late comeback on Inferno before rolling over Casper "cadiaN" Møller and company on Mirage.

"We made playoffs seven times in a row, you can't take that away from us," Dorian "xertioN" Berman said on the desk, but questions remain over MOUZ's form once the matches flip to the arena where the young squad has struggled historically.

Key man Jimi "Jimpphat" Salo shone throughout the series as MOUZ toiled against a Liquid team looking to exploit their lack of pressure. An 8-3 lead for Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek's men turned into 9-11, but at that moment MOUZ went up a gear to steal away Liquid's pick.

With a convincing performance on Mirage, the series was over and MOUZ will have another chance to prove their doubters wrong on stage.

The thing is, it's very easy to just write something like this without any argument, and then just let it fade into the void when you are gonna be wrong.

The thing is, people been saying this after jabbi and stavn joined and Astralis had a few decent games with 'em. There's almost nuffin' as short-lived as the HLTV communities' assessment of a situation like this, so there's no need for real arguments because you will fade into the void just as much as soon as non-argument of a somewhat "chemical reaction" gets proven wrong.

It's called getting rid of the dividing factor in the team, having 5 players and a coach on exactly the same page. Device basically handpicked the entire roster, including the coach. It's not your regular honeymoon phase, these guys knows each others much better than the usual honeymoon team. But it's ok to hope that it is a honeymoon phase, because if it isn't, we got a new solid top 3 team, possibly even an era team, but that might be stretching it a bit too far.

For the first time I found someone who sees the new roster and Dev1ce taking over as IGL from my perspective. I knew Ruggah and Dev1ce were friends from way back. Then Device mentioning Jabbi and Staehr in his dream team during a Blast segment last year. It was before him and Stavn joined Astralis. In his interview on HLTV Confirmed he said something that pointed to him picking Br0. And lastly in Katowice I got the vibe that he was doing a lot of things that only IGLs do when he told Banks that he was grinding lots of demos, trying to find new nades and new ways to manipulate maps. Also, the way they played Vertigo Vs Spirit in RMR looked like something he'd cooked.

It's not even like I'm thinking that they wouldn't deserve success with this roster, I just reckon it's way too early to interpret so much stuff into a few good games when basically no one in the scene has intel on how you play and whatnot right now, so it's interesting to see what happens whenever people figure the new Astralis out. This could very well be another honeymoon period, no matter how hard you try to downplay it. I don't hope it is but it could.

He should get kicked if he can't regroup fast. He's been subpar for long enough and there is no reason to keep him if he can't frag now that he isn't IGL anymore. Not to mention his way overinflated ego.

Sheesh astralis went from finishing close to last in every tournament to steamrolling faze and vp. Crazy how one player can have that much of a negative impact.

There may be more factors involved than just that: FINALLY a fine coach arrived, and how should any team anti-strat Astralis with Dev1ce as IGL? Nobody knows what to expect. Time will show if they can keep it up, but I don't think you can "Blame F" ... 😎

i mean, something the vast majority of reasonable people have been saying for ages...i'm not surprised at all astralis had this results (and maybe even more on this & future tournaments) after kicking a crappy igl and a baiter of a player who only cared about his own stats specially considering astralis has a roster that should never be outside of the top 10, once they got rid of the clear issue, now they "surprisingly" show some great level of cs lmfao.
